The fifth week of the Top-16 phase of resumed on Wednesday with an exciting and pivotal Group E fight and two teams playing out their Euroleague string in Group F.

Lietuvos Rytas 68, Panathinaikos 67

Group E got very interesting and crowded with the Rytas road win at Panathinaikos on Wednesday.

After Dimitris Diamantidis gave Panathinaikos a two-point lead with 7.7 seconds remaining in the game, Khalid El-Amin was able to get to the line on the other side of the floor and made his two free throws to give Rytas a 68-67 lead. Drew Nicholas had a chance to win it for Panathinaikos, but he missed the buzzer-beater.

El-Amin had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Brad Newley had an efficient 16 and five.

Rytas struggled with their shooting, but outrebounded Panathinaikos by a margin of 12 and were +8 on the offensive glass. Newley had three offensive boards himself, while Jonas Valanciunas was pivotal in that department as well.

Diamantidis led Panathinaikos with eight points and seven assists, while Stratos Perperoglou and Kostas Kaimakoglou both played productive minutes. Nicholas scored 10 points, but was 0-for-5 from beyond the arc and the team shot a combined 2-for-16 from distance. Antonis Fotsis, who won MVP honors last week, scored eight points on eight shots in an uneventful outing.

Both teams are now 3-2 heading into the final week of Top-16 and could be in a three-way tie with Caja Laboral following their matchup on Thursday against Unicaja.

Lottomatica Roma 87, Union Olimpija 76

While it won't be enough to get them out of Top-16, Roma picked up their first win of the stage on Wednesday with an 87-76 road win against Olimpija.

Roma was down by four at halftime, but outscored Olimpija by a 28-14 margin in the third.

Nihad Djedovic had an excellent game, scoring 20 points on 12 shots, while adding four rebounds, three assists and four steals. Djedovic's day was a microcosm of Roma as a team, as they shot lights out. Darius Washington also added an efficient 15 points, while Luigi Datome, Vladimir Dasic and Nemanja Gordic were also in double-figures.

Turning the ball over against a hot shooting team is never a formula for success and Olimpija had a -7 in this deoartment. Kenny Gregory had a solid game offensively, scoring 18 points on 13 shots. Giorgi Shermadini had 10 points, five boards and four blocks.

Both teams are now 1-4 as Group F predictably turned into the haves (Barcelona, Maccabi) and have-nots (Roma, Olimpija).
