A little over a year ago, I had an idea for a site devoted to explaining the Collective Bargaining Agreement that filled a different role than the other great content out there. After all, a variety of writers including (but not limited to) Larry Coon, Mark Deeks, Eric Pincus and my frequent podcast partner Nate Duncan have created simply awesome resources on the topic that novices and experts alike use and appreciate.

The CBA Encyclopedia will become a one stop shop that can explain the Collective Bargaining Agreement while putting it in proper context. It will connect with both the more static structure of the CBA itself and the vibrant world of the NBA where events change the way we interpret and think about the rules that govern the Association. Each piece should both explain how the current system works and why it exists while also providing examples of real life situations where it has and will make an impact.

Entries will also connect with the news of the league because concepts like trade exceptions and free agency affect every decision teams and players make. If a rumor or move does not make sense to you, there will be a CBA Encyclopedia section that will help explain it and a group of people ready to answer any lingering questions.

RealGM is the perfect home for this concept because it has earned its place as a source for news and information.

This kind of an undertaking will take time and a team- fortunately we have a great group of writers that will help bring this concept to life and keep it up to date with a continually changing league. The CBA Encyclopedia team will also contribute to non-Encyclopedia material to help engage readers including roundtables and narrower pieces on specific situations.

It is also my intention to have this structure prepared to adapt to the next Collective Bargaining Agreement when it comes, likely in 2017. Most of the core concepts should stay the same and can be updated with any new developments. The CBA Encyclopedia should be a resource for the foreseeable future. Pieces will use the CBA Encyclopedia tag and we are in the process of developing a separate structure to connect with the entries as well.

Getting the opportunity to turn this vision into a reality is a genuine thrill and it will be so much fun to build a long-term resource for this community to enjoy.
