RealGM’s Player of the Week: Ike Diogu (Bakerfield James)

Diogu had a trio of double-doubles this week as Bakersfield went 3-0. The 6-foot-8 forward from Arizona State averaged 28.3 points and 13.7 points per game while shooting 71 percent from the field. He’s had a stellar NBA career and could fill the back-end of a contender's roster if they're looking for immediate help. Diogu has grown as a stretch four who is a threat facing the basket or on the block.

Game of the Week: Iowa Energy 129, Fort Wayne Mad Ants 128

In a tightly contested back-and-forth game, Austin Freeman converted a four-point play with 32 seconds left to seal the Iowa victory. The Energy took a 122-117 advantage and never let Fort Wayne climb back after clutch free throw shooting.

Freeman and Moses Ehambe led the Energy with 23 points each. Assignee Glen Rice Jr. scored 15 points on 3-of-8 shooting and a 2-of-4 showing from three.

Trey McKinney Jones had a game-high 25 points for the Mad Ants. Tony Mitchell added 18 points while assignee Jamaal Franklin had 12.

Five Stars

Frank Gaines (Maine Red Claws): The left-handed shooting guard broke out for 47 points (16-27 FG, 8-13 3FG), five rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a loss to the Delaware 87ers. As a whole, Gaines averaged 31.3 points per game this week and continues to be one of the top scorers in the league.

Tony Mitchell (Fort Wayne Mad Ants): After spending three games with the Milwaukee Bucks, Mitchell returned to Fort Wayne and averaged 25.5 points along with 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and three-point range this week. The athletic 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Alabama had a solid showing in limited NBA action and will certainly be on some radars this summer.

Darius Morris (Rio Grande Valley Vipers): The D-League’s second ranked prospect averaged 20.3 points, 5.8 assists, and and 5.8 rebounds per game this week after being released from the Philadelphia 76ers. Morris, a 6-foot-4 point guard out of Michigan, is certainly an NBA talent who should work his way back into the league.

Ronald “Flip” Murray (Austin Toros): Murray averaged 33.7 points per game this week for the Toros while shooting 44 percent from the field and 45 percent from three. The former NBA veteran also averaged 4.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. He’s certainly been a fun scorer to watch.

Tyshawn Taylor (Maine Red Claws): After beginning the season on an NBA roster, Taylor has been stuffing the box scores in the D-League. Taylor averaged 21 points, 9.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game this week while playing stellar at the point guard position. He plays at a level beyond his peers with excellent pace and vision.

Call-Ups

Seth Curry (Santa Cruz Warriors): Curry received his second 10-day NBA contract this season after averaging 19.4 points and 5.9 assists per game in Santa Cruz. The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Curry to help treat the numerous backcourt injuries. He’s a crafty 6-foot-2 point guard with a high basketball IQ and a silky jumper. Fittingly enough, Curry’s first NBA points came on a three-pointer against the Houston Rockets.

James Nunnally (Texas Legends): Since being traded to Texas, Nunnally was averaging 17.3 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 37 percent from three. As a result, the struggling Philadelphia 76ers extended a 10-day contract to the 6-foot-7 small forward from UC Santa Barbara. Nunnally has played in four games with the 76ers, averaging 2.8 points in 14 minutes of action. He’s a lengthy, defensive specialist with upside.
