The Twins are struggling, to say the least.

I did a quick update on Triple A- I was bored.

I give it like 4 starts max for Ponson before Garza gets called up.

You have to give Ponson a little more credit, he was facing the 1927 Yankees reincarnated. Plus he was really unlucky with his defense.

He looked incredibly nervous on the mound, he was sweating buckets of sweat. Like I said, I think he'll have 3 more bad starts and then 1 pretty bad start and then Garza will get called up.

with perkins now called up, he might sneak in a spot start, if silva or ponson struggle in their next few outings.

Did a wholesale update.

Our AAA position players are pretty much disappointing across the board, but there are some bright spots in AA. I guess that makes sense, since for the most part, our AAA players are first round picks who have disappointed. Well, maybe not "for the most part", but definitely in the case of Matt Moses and Denard Span. The season is still young, plenty of time for them to turn it around.

The AA guys, in particular David Winfree and Trevor Plouffe, are doing well though. Hopefully Winfree sticks around all year this time around, the Twins could really use a guy like him. Decent defense at third, gets on base well, and he's got good power. Plouffe's always been seen as a good glove with an excellent arm, and he's shown good power and patience at every stop he's made, he's just had trouble making contact. If he keeps this up, and Winfree does the same, we could be looking at a Morneau/Casilla/Plouffe/Winfree infield in a year or two.

The Snappers seem to be struggling as well.

Plouffe was a first rounder right?

And Winfree was our Minor League Player of the Year a year or two ago but then left for personal reasons the next season right?

Plouffe was a 1st round pick, yes. I don't remember the reason that Winfree was gone last year, I thought it was injuries.

I remember he left indefinitely to sort out personal matters.

He wasn't sure if he wanted to play baseball anymore. From what I've read (I think there was an article in the Strib during spring training), he went back to Virginia and worked for his dad for a little bit, decided trying to make it in baseball was better than the real world, and asked the Twins if he could come back. Regardless of his personal issues though, he can hit, and that's something we haven't seen from a 3B since Koskie was healthy.

Is he a better prospect overall than Moses?

He's had better results so far. They were actually high school rivals in Virginia. So far, Moses has been a level ahead of Winfree, so he gets a few extra marks for that. Unfortunately, he's only had one decent year at the plate, while Winfree has put up good numbers at just about every stop. Both hit for some power, Winfree's better at actually making contact, but Moses has a better approach at the plate. Right now most places I've seen put Winfree ahead of Moses, and rightly so.

Fielding wise? How long until these guys are up here? It would seem to me that they get called up late '08 and possibly play everyday in '09.

Updated the stats again, although Swarzak's stats won't be getting updated for awhile now because of his suspension. Disappointing development, he was probably our pitching prospect with thebest chance of breaking out this year. Waldrop, Rainville and Baker seemed to have turned it on a bit recently, though.

TF21, fielding wise, neither Moses or Winfree's awful, but they aren't standouts either. Moses is probably a little better with the glove, but there are questions about his arm. If Moses starts hitting this year, then we could see him as soon as late this season, given the unsettled nature of 3B for the Twins (Punto hasn't been hitting enough to be a regular, Cirillo's on the DL and Rodriguez isn't the answer). Winfree could possibly arrive this year if he hits enough to warrant a promotion and has a strong start against AAA pitching. I don't know how likely that is, since in order for Winfree to be promoted Moses would have to get sent down or switch positions.

Ugh, you hate to see that with a such a promising young prospect like Swarzak.

Does anybody here geel bad for Glenn Williams the kid still has a hitting streak alive in the Bigs, my buddy said when he got injured a few years back he was crying in the trainers room. I love the heart of Tommy Watkins I'd love to see him get to the Show, and Denard Span is a ways away from getting to the Show!

All of those guys are in Rochester for a reason, except maybe Scott Baker.

I'm a little curious as to what drug it was. If it was just something like pot, then I'm not worried. If it was a harder drug then that's more of a red flag. It wasn't a performance enhancer, so there's no doubt cast on his past results, it seems like it will just be a setback, and he's young enough where it shouldn't set him back too much.
