The Bakersfield Jam named Jim Harrick their first head coach.  Harrick had stops in the college ranks with Rhode Island, Georgia and UCLA, where he won a National Championship.

"I've been sitting around doing nothing," he told The (Bakersfield) Californian. "I think my wife wanted it more than I did. Get me out of the house. It'll hurt my (golf) handicap, but that's what I do. That's all I've done my whole life."

Harrick had spent the last three years scouting for the NBA's Denver Nuggets and traveling to China to help develop basketball there.

Former UCLA and Georgia Coach Jim Harrick will coach the Bakersfield Jam after a three year hiatus from coaching.

Harrick's son was fired from Georgia for alleged money and preferential treatment given to a recruit, which will result in his exclusion from the Jam's coaching staff.

The National Basketball Association announced today its affiliation system for the 2006-07 NBA Development League season. Each of the 12 D-League teams will be affiliated with one-to-three NBA teams, and the NBA teams may assign players in their first two seasons to play in the D-League.

"We're thrilled to announce our 2006-07 affiliation lineup in advance of this year's NBA Draft," D-League President Phil Evans said.  "Now fans can tune in and actually see some of the NBA players who could be spending time playing for their D-League team this season."
