Tony Wroten May Spend Time In D-League

Tony Wroten Jr. has impressed with his work ethic and willingness to learn, but may struggle to carve out minutes in the Grizzlies rotation.

"We'll see how fast he progresses," Lionel Hollins said before a recent Summer League game. "It will be difficult for him because we're deep there. If he doesn't make it, there's a chance he could spend time in (D-League) Reno.

"Like a lot of one-and-done guys, Tony still has a lot of work to do on the defensive end. He's never been called on to play defense the way we will want him to play at this level. It's a big adjustment.

"It's entirely different here. It's not like AAU or high school, where you can be the focus and you can play the game the way you like to play it. Here there are a lot of sacrifices to be made. This is a business. Already he's seeing that. Practices are 2 ½ to three hours long. Every day."

Wroten, 19, was the 25th overall pick in the draft.

"Obviously, I don't want to be in the D-League," he said. "So I have to come in and work hard so I don't have to play in the D-League. From now until November, I have to work on everything. From now on, I can't take no days off."

Josiah Turner Seeks Start In Europe, D-League Instead Of SMU Transfer

Josiah Turner has decided to turn pro rather than transfer to Southern Methodist University.

Turner will seek a contract in Europe or play in the D-League.

Turner admitted that he struggled with alcohol and marijuana during his freshman year at Arizona.

"I had to step back and reevaluate what my main goal and my dream was," Turner said. "My dream is to be a professional athlete in the NBA and I think this is what's going to bring me closer to it. In college, you get your degree and everything, but going pro is getting me closer to my dream and what I want to do in life."

Taylor will sign with a pro team next season either overseas or in the D-League.

"I just can't wait to show everyone that I'm a new person and that my maturity level is higher," he said. "I lost a lot of fans, a lot of younger people that looked up to me. I want to earn them all back and take advantage of the new start.”
