Bulls To Feature Camp Invites Christopher, Lucas In D-League

Oct 30, 2013 7:21 PM

Guards Patrick Christopher and Kalin Lucas have reached deals to begin the season with the Chicago Bulls’ D-League affiliate, league sources told RealGM.

Christopher and Lucas had been released early in training camp with the Bulls this season, and the organization held their rights in order for both to play for the D-League’s Iowa Energy.

Christopher passed on several sizable offers from overseas teams.

Christopher, a 6-foot-5 two-guard, went undrafted in 2010 after averaging 15.6 points and 5.4 rebounds in his senior season at the University of California.

Lucas had a standout career at Michigan State, spending his first two professional seasons in Turkey and Greece.

Celtics Lead Among Teams Negotiating Rights To Romero Osby

Oct 30, 2013 3:46 PM

With the Boston Celtics as the leading candidate to acquire his rights, Romero Osby is finalizing a deal to sign in the NBA D-League, league sources told RealGM.

Osby was a final cut of the Orlando Magic, who selected the rugged, active forward with the No. 51 pick in the NBA draft. Since Osby’s release in training camp, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Brooklyn Nets have also expressed interest in him, sources said.

Fort Wayne currently owns rights to Osby, but the Celtics’ D-League affiliate – the Maine Red Claws – is working to acquire the 23-year-old. The Celtics have one roster spot open and could call up Osby at a point that is flexible on the team’s salary situation.

Osby averaged 16 points and seven rebounds last season at the University of Oklahoma. He was part of the Magic’s summer league team and became one of the last rookie signings to officially join his drafted organization.

In seven preseason games for the Magic, Osby averaged 5.7 points and four rebounds in 15.4 minutes a game.

29 NBA Teams Have Players On Opening Day Rosters With D-League Experience

Oct 29, 2013 12:30 PM

An all-time high 103 players with NBA Development League experience are featured on 13-14 NBA opening-day rosters, up from 86 such players on opening day rosters last season.

The 103 players represent 24 percent of all NBA players.  NBA D-League alumni on opening day rosters have nearly tripled since 2006-07, with only 35 NBA D-Leaguers making NBA opening day rosters that season.

Twenty-nine of 30 NBA teams feature at least one player with NBA D-League experience, while the Atlanta Hawks have a league-high seven NBA D-League alumni on their roster.

The Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns each have six former NBA D-Leaguers and an additional three teams have five former NBA D-Leaguers on squads.

Oct 28, 2013 7:13 PM

Free agent guard B.J. Young – a recent release of the Rockets – will sign a deal with Houston’s D-League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, a league source told RealGM.

Young was released by the Rockets early in training camp, but the former Arkansas standout received interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadlephia 76ers before deciding to join the Rockets’ burgeoning pipeline of young talent, a league source said.

Daryl Morey has stockpiled several talented players to place into the Rockets’ developmental system, which will also include the recently waived Troy Daniels.

After averaging over 15 points and three assists in his sophomore season at the Unviersity of Arkansas, Young, 20, went undrafted in June’s NBA draft.

Luke Walton Still Hoping To Play In NBA This Season

Oct 20, 2013 10:59 PM

Luke Walton has been doing television work covering the Los Angeles Lakers, but the NBA veteran is not conceding retirement yet.

"I want to play still," Walton said. "I’ve trained all summer as if I was going to get a call. The call never came, so, I’m going to keep working out ... If nothing happens this year, then I’ll probably admit that it’s officially over."

Walton has already met with the Lakers' D-League affiliate, the L.A. D-Fenders, to discuss fulfilling a player development role that will allow him to work out with the team along with his TV duties.

Walton spent last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Thunder Don't Plan To Send Steven Adams To D-League

Oct 19, 2013 2:00 AM

When Steven Adams was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder as a first round pick in the NBA draft, many believed the center would be a project for the organization and spend most of the season in the D-League.

The Thunder, however, have not discussed sending Adams to their D-League affiliate, citing his strong training camp.

“It’s something that we never talked about,” Brooks said of Adams and the D-League. “We just focus on what we do here. If players go down and play in the D-League in Tulsa that decision is made during that time.

"But right now, I’m not even going that way with any of our guys. We like to have our guys here because they need to understand what we do and how we do it and it’s great for them to have a chemistry with the new guys or the guys trying to make the team.”

Adams scored 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Thunder's preseason game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday.
