The Sacramento Kings announced Shareef Abdur-Rahim as general manager of the Reno Bighorns, the organization's NBA D-League affiliate.

Abdur-Rahim, who also holds the role of director of player personnel for the Kings, will oversee basketball operations for the Bighorns.

Abdur-Rahim is entering his fourth season in the Kings front office, where he served the previous three as assistant GM after spending the 2009-10 season on the Kings bench as an assistant coach specializing in player development.

Prior to retiring from professional basketball in 2008, Abdul-Rahim amassed career averages of 18.1 points (.472 FG%, .297 3FG%, .810 FT%), 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in 830 contests over 12 seasons for four teams (Vancouver 1996-97 to 2000-01, Atlanta 2001-02 to 2003-04, Portland 2003-04 to 2004-05 and Sacramento 2005-06 to 2007-08).

The Delaware 87ers, D-League team for the Philadelphia 76ers, have acquired the rights to 16 players via the NBA D-League Expansion Draft.

Josh Akognon, Chris Cooper, Jerome Dyson, Kyle Fogg, Jeremy Green, Frank Hassell, Darington Hobson, Leo Lyons, Ramone Moore, Hamady N'Diaye, Reeves Nelson, Jerome Randle, Ish Smith, Willie Warren, Tyler Wilkerson and Sean Williams have been assigned to the 87ers.

The Springfield Armor have named Doug Overton as the team’s new head coach.

“We are very pleased to welcome Doug as the new head coach of the Armor,” said Lee. “Doug brings a wealth of experience as both an NBA player and coach, and his relationship with the Nets over the past several years will make this a very smooth transition for both him and our team.”

“I’m excited for the opportunity to take over as the head coach of the Springfield Armor,” said Overton. “I’m looking forward to developing our players, both on and off the court, and continuing to build a winning culture in Springfield.”

The Orlando Magic are seeking a one-to-one affiliation with a D-League franchise that is based in Florida.

The Magic would like the agreement to be a hybrid where the team operates and pays for the basketball operations and a separate ownership group runs the rest of the franchise.

However, there isn't currently a D-League team in Florida.

The D-League is discussing expanding its number of teams.

“It will be carefully managed and hopefully an intelligent expansion process,” D-League president Dan Reed told the Orlando Sentinel. “The long-run goal is 30 teams, where every NBA team has its own NBA D-League team. I can’t tell you exactly when that will happen, but I think we’ll get closer to that in the near future.”
