Kenny Kadji Rejects Overseas Offers For Deal With Cavaliers

Aug 30, 2013 5:32 PM

Undrafted forward Kenny Kadji has agreed to sign a non-guaranteed contract and play in training camp with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a league source told RealGM.

Kadji, 25, turned down several substantial offers from European clubs to focus on starting his career in the NBA. He will travel to Cleveland next week to begin preparing for camp.

Kadji was on the Cavaliers’ summer league team in July, averaging 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds.

After putting up nearly 13 points and seven rebounds per game as a senior at the University of Miami, Kadji wasn’t selected in the June NBA draft. At 6-foot-10, he also has a smooth touch from outside, shooting 35.1 percent from three-point range last season.

Ivan Johnson Signs One-Year Contract With China's Golden Bulls

Aug 29, 2013 10:29 AM

With no NBA out clause, Ivan Johnson has signed a one-year contract with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the Chinese Basketball Association, a league source told RealGM.

Johnson, the 6-foot-8 free agent forward, received interest throughout NBA free agency, and his four finalists were the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls, a source said. He decided to accept a more lucrative deal in China – where he spent the 2011 season – instead of continuing to wait for an organization to enhance its offer.

Johnson also is hoping to take advantage of China’s shorter season and return to the States late in the NBA season, when teams will deal with possible injuries and look to add pieces.

There remains strong interest in Johnson, and the 29-year-old took a deal for one season in order to return next year. RealGM first reported on Aug. 16 that Johnson had started to seriously consider leaving the NBA for offers in China and Italy.

Johnson averaged 6.5 points and 3.9 rebounds over two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, carving a role as an active, tough big man after bouncing around in his basketball career.

Luke Babbitt To Sign With BC Nizhny Novgorod

Aug 28, 2013 1:09 PM

Luke Babbitt has agreed to sign a one-year deal with BC Nizhny Novgorod of Russia.

The contract does not include an NBA out clause.

“My take is Luke needs to play 30 minutes a game and play a more expanded role," agent Bill Duffy said. "We've had recent success with both Danny Green (of the San Antonio Spurs) and Patrick Beverley (of the Houston Rockets) getting an opportunity to develop their games in Europe and return to the NBA. The NBA is a league of opportunity. We feel strongly this is the best move for Luke at this time.”

Portland opted not to exercise the fourth year of Babbitt's rookie contract before the 2012-13 season began, making him an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Demetri McCamey Signs One-Year Deal With Australia's Cairns Taipans

Aug 26, 2013 9:32 AM

Demetri McCamey has signed a one-year contract – without an NBA opt-out clause – with Cairns Taipans of the Australian National Basketball League, a source told RealGM.

McCamey had been in discussions with a few NBA teams about a possible training camp invite, but the 6-foot-3 guard decided to take a guaranteed deal in the same league into which James Ennis signed. McCamey was impressive in the Las Vegas summer league, averaging 8.6 points and two rebounds for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

McCamey, 24, had a standout college career at the University of Illinois, going unselected in the 2011 NBA draft. He’s expected to receive heavy minutes at point guard with his new team in Australia.
