Bosh Uncertain For Olympics Due To Abdominal Strain

Jun 28, 2012 11:07 PM

Chris Bosh’s participation at the London Olympics is uncertain due to an abdominal strain that caused him to miss nine games during the playoffs.

“We’re going to talk about it,’’ Bosh’s agent, Henry Thomas, said. “I’m going to have a conversation (with Bosh on Friday) about it …. We’ll go more in-depth. I’d rather not talk about it until we talk about it.’’

Bosh was ultimately non-committal when speaking to the media earlier this week.

“Right now, that’s a conversation I have to have with the doctors and the trainers,’’ Bosh said about playing in the London. “I knew I wasn’t going to be 100 percent coming into my situation (when he returned from his injury in the playoffs). There was some pain I had to fight through. I think I have to get reassessed. They’re going to tell me what my options are and how we can work things out, and how we can move forward after that day… We’re going to have more conversations and see where it goes.’’

Carmelo Down 12 Pounds Since End Of Season

Jun 26, 2012 11:41 PM

Carmelo Anthony has lost 12 pounds since the Knicks lost to the Heat in the first round of the playoffs.

"Me and coach Woodson talk, and me and the training staff talk, and there are some things that they would like to see coming back into this season," said Anthony, who visited with Mike Woodson in Los Angeles last week. "Right now, I exceeded their expectations, and when they saw me the other day, they were kind of shocked to see me down in weight. They came to my workout, they saw it. They're actually excited about how much hard work that I'm putting in and the things I'm doing right now."

Anthony found motivation in watching LeBron James lead the Heat to the title.

"The motivation is fun at this point in time just to see those guys and see how excited they were to win that championship and see LeBron overcome everything that he's been going through and that's been said about him," said Anthony, who talked to James and Dwyane Wade right after Game 5. "And for him to finally get it, I couldn't be more excited for him to get that. But for me, it's motivation and it's exciting."

Parker Questionable For Olympics

Jun 24, 2012 5:25 PM

Tony Parker could miss the Olympics because he has not fully recovered from an injury to his left eye.

"As required by the Spurs, I will go back to the U.S. on July 5... I will visit a specialist in New York, hoping he will give the green light to compete at the Games," Parker said.

Parker will defer the decision to the Spurs.

"The Spurs are very worried,” he said. “Depending on the (examination) results, a withdrawal is possible. The decision is not mine anymore, it is up to the doctor and the Spurs."

Deng Sees Some Truth Behind Trade Rumors

Jun 24, 2012 5:24 PM

Luol Deng will not be surprised if the Bulls trade him this summer.

"I believe there is always to some extent truth behind rumors," Deng said. "But as an athlete, if you get caught up in them, you are really wasting your time because it's not something you can control.

"If it's not true, a GM could always come out and say it's not true. But if a GM doesn't come out and say it, there are probably talks. And there should be. If I was a GM I would be shopping players around, too.”

Chicago is reportedly disappointed that Deng will play in the Olympics for Great Britain.

"I wouldn't want me to play (in the Olympics) either,” Deng said. “Pax is an athlete and, as an athlete who used to play, Pax understands me wanting to play. But as a GM that's his job to try and get the team healthy and get the team ready for next year. I understand both sides to it.

"But it comes down to an injury that happened at the wrong time. I just try to let people know I'm going to be OK."

Wade May Miss Olympics Because Of Ailing Knee

Jun 23, 2012 12:22 AM

Dwyane Wade may not be healthy enough to play at the London Olympics.

''I've got to make a decision on what my knee needs and what's best, because my career and finishing my career strong is what's important to me,'' Wade said. ''And I know, yeah, the Olympics are coming up. It's something I really want to do. But at the same time, if I have to make a big decision, if something has to happen surgery-wise, that will have to be a step I have to take. My loyalty and my commitment to Miami Heat basketball is the No. 1 thing.''

Wade’s knee was drained during the second round of the playoffs.

Varejao Healthy, Set To Play For Brazil In Olympics

Jun 22, 2012 10:45 AM

Anderson Varejao is healthy and recovered from a broken wrist that cost him most of last season.

Varejao is eager to join fellow NBA players Leandro Barbosa and Tiago Splitter on the Brazilian national team.

“The players are still young, but we have experience,” Anderson said. “This is very important. It's great to have athletes playing in the NBA and in Europe, for example.”

Varejao has matched up against many of the elite players expected to compete at the London games.

“This helps break the ice, since they will have several NBA players and we have an idea of how they play,” Anderson said.

Navarro Struggling With Plantar Fasciitis, May Be Limited During Olympics

Jun 21, 2012 10:48 AM

Juan Carlos Navarro has struggled with a recurrence of plantar fasciitis and could be limited during this summer’s Olympics.

Navarro, the EuroBasket 2011 MVP, sat out several games during Regal Barcelona’s recent run to the 2012 ACB League title.

"Navarro has struggled throughout the season,” Spain coach Sergio Scariolo said. “In the playoffs, he hasn't been able to give his best because of his condition.

“We hope that with some rest and a specific preparation, we can have him. He is a pillar of the national team.”
