Trojans Give #8 Wichita State Another Vegas Loss

Nick Young scored a season-high 26 points and Southern California beat Wichita State 60-56 in the third-place game of the Las Vegas Classic on Saturday.

Wichita State arrived in Las Vegas as the number eight team in the country, but also lost 71-68 to New Mexico for their first defeat of the season after opening 9-0.

"They kept coming at us," Wichita State coach Mark Turgeon said. "They have a lot more athletes than us. Nick Young was unbelievable."

Knight Ties Smith With Win Over Bucknell

Add this to the list of things you can say about Bob Knight: Nobody has ever won more Division I men's basketball games.

Knight matched Dean Smith's record of 879 victories when Texas Tech beat Bucknell 72-60 on Saturday.

Knight's first chance to own the top spot all by his sweater-wearing self comes Thursday night at home against UNLV.

Stress Fracture Sidelines Cal's Hardin

California center DeVon Hardin will miss 8 to 12 weeks with a stress fracture in his left foot, sidelining the Golden Bears' best post player for most of the Pac-10 season.

Hardin injured his foot late in the first half of an 84-50 win against Furman on Tuesday night. The school said he will have surgery on Friday.

Paulus Scores Career-High 20 Points In Duke's Win Over Gonzaga

Greg Paulus had a career-high 20 points and combined with Josh McRoberts on three big plays in the second half to help No. 6 Duke beat No. 22 Gonzaga 61-54 on Thursday night in the Aeropostale Classic at Madison Square Garden.

The two sophomores came up big for the Blue Devils on the offensive end in a defensive game that saw plenty of missed shots and almost as many bodies on the floor.

Dane Bradshaw scored on a putback with 1.9 seconds left, and Tennessee ended No. 15 Oklahoma State's perfect start by beating the Cowboys 79-77 Monday night.

Wisconsin Ranked Highest Ever, UCLA Remains No. 1

An eight-day run that Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan called a "huge week" has the Badgers at their highest ranking ever.

A road win over Marquette started the stretch and it ended with Saturday's 89-75 victory over then-No. 2 Pittsburgh. The two wins, along with a midweek victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee, helped the Badgers (11-1) jump from seventh to No. 4 in the AP poll released Monday.

Walker Set To Make K-State Debut

Bill Walker has been a growing legend around the Kansas State campus and is set to make his debut on Sunday against Kennesaw State.

"I'm excited about it," Walker said. "It's been a long time since I've played, so I'm ready to get out there."

Wisconsin Defeats No. 2 Pittsburgh

Alando Tucker had 32 points and 10 rebounds and Brian Butch added a career-high 27 points and had 11 rebounds as No. 7 Wisconsin beat No. 2 Pittsburgh 89-75 on Saturday, snapping the Panthers' 21-game nonconference winning streak.

Knight Within One Win Of Smith's All-Time Record

Texas Tech played like a Bob Knight team and moved him within one victory of Dean Smith's all-time coaching record.

The Red Raiders moved the ball patiently and shut down Arkansas' stagnant offense, and went on to a 71-56 victory Saturday.

Knight has 878 victories and he can tie Smith's Division I mark when Texas Tech hosts Bucknell next Saturday, although he downplayed the accomplishment after the game.
