Danny Ainge said the Boston Celtics were "probably offering too much" to trade into the lottery despite having all of their attempts turned down.

The Celtics were reportedly targeting Justise Winslow as high as No. 4 and tried to grab him again when he was available at No. 9. Winslow was selected at No. 10 by the Miami Heat.

"Our probably biggest plan was to try to use a lot of our assets, a lot of our picks, to try to consolidate picks and to move up in the draft," he told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich. "We spent a few weeks trying to prepare for that and do that, knowing that nothing really gets done until draft day, when people are making their final offers, their best offers and so forth. We were very close to consolidating picks and moving up in the draft on a couple of different occasions, and it just didn't happen.

"In hindsight, the next day, it's probably a good thing. We were probably going to spend too much to do what we needed to do," Ainge said. "This morning I wake up, and I'm refreshed that we got guys that we like but also that we didn't overspend for some of the players that were in the draft -- actually just basically one player we were chasing that we thought we had a realistic chance at."

Ainge hinted his offer might have included at least one of Brooklyn's unprotected future first round picks, but the Charlotte Hornets were set on drafting Frank Kaminsky.

"(The future picks) are worth a lot, (but) I think the draft is probably the time where they're least valuable, simply because people get so caught up in players," Ainge said on the radio. "Without mentioning names, there are some players that were drafted at certain spots (by teams) that turned down lots of draft picks that I just don't think was smart on their part.

"But I think our assets have value. On draft day, typically those are hard deals to move. People get so caught up and get so in love with a specific player that that player in their minds becomes bigger than life."

Emmanuel Mudiay had to wait longer than expected to be drafted. Once considered a potential top overall pick in this draft class, he was rumored to go as high as fourth to the New York Knicks. He ended up going seventh to the Denver Nuggets, who already have an above-average point guard in Ty Lawson.

“They’re definitely up and down,” Mudiay said of his emotions. “You just don’t know, especially after Karl [Anthony-Towns] got picked, nobody really knew where they was going. But we’re definitely excited that I got picked to Denver.”

Mudiay was asked whether he felt his decision to play in China this past year, instead of at SMU, impacted his draft stock. 

“I don’t think it impacted, I just think maybe when I got hurt,” he explained. “You could have got hurt anywhere, so when I got hurt I think that’s what made my stock go down, I guess. But I’m in the NBA, I made it in, so it starts right now.”

Mudiay is open to teaming up with Lawson.

“I can just learn as much as I can from Ty Lawson,” Mudiay said of how he fits with Denver. “He’s been there a while, so I’m just going to try to get as much advice as I can.”

Moments after the Nuggets selected Mudiay, Lawson posted a video of himself on social media stating: “Told you, I’m going to Sacramento.”

The New York Knicks have agreed to trade Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Atlanta Hawks for the draft rights to Jerian Grant out of Notre Dame with the 19th overall pick.

The Hawks traded down from the 15th pick to acquire the Washington Wizards' pick.

The Minnesota Timberwolves opened the 2015 NBA Draft by selecting Karl-Anthony Towns out of Kentucky.

D'Angelo Russell went second to the Los Angeles Lakers as they went with a small over Jahlil Okafor.

Okafor went third to the Philadelphia 76ers and Adrian Wojnarowski reported that they plan to keep him for good.

The New York Knicks picked Kristaps Porzingis with the fourth overall pick.

Mario Hezonja went to the Orlando Magic at No. 5 and Willie Cauley-Stein came off the board at No. 6 to the Sacramento Kings.

The Denver Nuggets picked Emmanuel Mudiay at No. 7, possibly ending the Ty Lawson era in the process.

Stanley Johnson was the pick of the Detroit Pistons at No. 8 ahead of Justise Winslow, while the Charlotte Hornets went with Frank Kaminsky at No. 9.

The Miami Heat drafted Winslow at No. 10 and then Myles Turner went to the Indiana Pacers at No. 11 as they move away from Roy Hibbert.

The Utah Jazz then selected Trey Lyles at No. 12, while another Kentucky player went to the Phoenix Suns at No. 13 in Devin Booker.

Cameron Payne was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder at No. 14 and then the Washington Wizards traded up from No. 19 to pick Kelly Oubre at No. 15.

The Boston Celtics selected Terry Rozier at No. 16, followed by Rashad Vaughn to the Milwaukee Bucks at No. 17 and Sam Dekker at No. 18.

The Knicks traded back into the first round by sending Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Hawks for No. 19, which became Jerian Grant of Notre Dame.

The Toronto Raptors picked Delon Wright out of Utah to replace Greivis Vasquez at No. 20, while Justin Anderson went to the Dallas Mavericks at 21.

The Chicago Bulls added to their frontcourt depth with Bobby Portis at No. 22, followed by Rondae Hollis-Jefferson going to the Portland Trail Blazers at No. 23.

The Wolves traded picks No. 31 and No. 36 to the Cleveland Cavaliers for No. 24 to pick hometown kid Tyus Jones out of Duke.

Jarell Martin of LSU went to the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 25, while the San Antonio Spurs found a draft-and-stash in Nikola Milutinov.

The Lakers picked Larry Nance Jr. at No. 27 with their second first round selection, while R.J. Hunter went to the Celtics with their second pick at No. 28.

Chris McCullough was picked by the Nets at No. 29 and Kevon Looney of UCLA was the final pick at No. 30 by the Golden State Warriors.

Karl-Anthony Towns worked out privately for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers didn't publicize the workout as they did for other prospects.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly decided to pick Towns at No. 1 ahead of the Lakers at No. 2. 

The Minnesota Timberwolves have settled on Karl-Anthony Towns, according to Brian Windhorst.

The Wolves have long been expected to select Towns with the first overall pick and they've made their decision.

The Wolves were also believed to be very high on Jahlil Okafor.

The Los Angeles Lakers are believed to be leaning towards drafting D'Angelo Russell with the second overall pick over Jahlil Okafor.

Okafor's second predraft workout was a drop-off from the first while Russell's perimeter shooting was impressive in his follow-up.

The Lakers see a comparison to Stephen Curry in the game of Russell with his ability to both pass and shoot.

Mitch Kupchak will have final authority to make the pick.

As Kupchak said, "It doesn't have to be a consensus. Really, it's going to be my decision, with the support of ownership."

The Lakers are also exploring trade scenarios with the Sacramento Kings centered on DeMarcus Cousins.

Chad Ford reported half an hour before the draft that his intel indicates the Lakers will take Russell.

Mario Hezonja just finished his season with Barcelona, but there have been complaints from some teams about the lack of information coming from his camp ahead of the draft.

Hezonja is represented by Arn Tellem, who recently was hired by the Detroit Pistons for an executive position effective on Aug. 1.

Those teams feel Hezonja's camp is "trying to pull a Kobe, to get him to Detroit," writes Givony.

The Pistons have a need for a wing with a strong perimeter game as Hezonja possesses. Detroit owns the eighth overall pick and there are several teams drafting ahead of them that have strong interest in Hezonja.

The Boston Celtics are prepared to send a significant trade package to the Philadelphia 76ers at No. 3 if Jahlil Okafor slips.

Okafor is in play for both the Minnesota Timberwolves at No. 1 and particularly the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 2. The Lakers are also considering D'Angelo Russell and Kristaps Porzingis with the second overall pick.

The Celtics have a considerable numbers of assets to make trading up viable and various reports have indicated they are including Marcus Smart in proposals.
