President Bush To The Pistons: "Nobody expected you to win."

The Detroit Pistons met with President George Bush at the White Houst on Monday.

"Nobody expected you to win," Bush said to the team. "I know how you feel."

He congratulated the Pistons for winning a championship "the right way" - with teamwork.

Prior to the ceremony Rasheed Wallace was asked what he would say to the president, he said, "I don't have (expletive) to say to him. I didn't vote for him. It's just something we have to do."

Murphy's Law, Warriors Forward Has Fractured Thumb

Warriors forward Troy Murphy sustained a hairline fracture in his left thumb Friday and did not dress for Saturday's game against the Clippers.

Murphy said the injury occurred when he went up for a rebound in the third quarter and caught a Sonics player who was on his way down.

Murphy stayed in the game and finished with 13 points and nine rebounds in 32 minutes.

Warriors officials said Murphy will be re-evaluated early this week after the team returns to Oakland. He had his swollen and purple thumb immersed in an ice bath prior to the Clippers game.

Arroyo Undergoes Surgery For Broken Nose, Doubtful For Next Two Games

Newly acquired Detroit Pistons guard Carlos Arroyo had surgery on his broken nose Monday and is doubtful for the next two games.

Arroyo broke his nose during a victory over New York on Saturday night, when he was accidentally hit in the face by the Knicks' Trevor Ariza.

He will be re-evaluated for Saturday's game at New Jersey. The former Jazz guard will have to wear a protective mask when he returns.

Sonics Activate Cleaves; Waive Kutluay

The Seattle SuperSonics today requested waivers on guard Ibrahim Kutluay.  In addition, the Sonics activated guard Mateen Cleaves off the injured list.

Kutlay, considered Turkey's best player, has seen little time with the Sonics this season.

Hawks Sign Ekezie For The Remainder Of The Season

The Hawks have signed center Obinna Ekezie for the remainder of the 2004-05 season, according to Executive VP/General Manager Billy Knight.  

Ekezie has seen action in 10 games after signing two ten-day contracts, averaging 1.8 ppg and 2.3 rpg.

Blazers? Anderson Hospitalized With A Sinus Infection

Derek Anderson has been hospitalized with a sinus infection related to his double root canal surgery performed last week.  Anderson will see an oral surgeon today and may require another surgery.

Guard Nick Van Exel did not practice Sunday as he is suffering from flu symptoms.

Brad Miller And Vince Carter Named Players Of The Week

The New Jersey Nets? Vince Carter and the Sacramento Kings? Brad Miller today were named the Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, January 24 through Sunday, January 30.

Carter led his team to a 3-1 week, averaging 25.0 points on .494 shooting, 7.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds. He led the Nets to their first winning Western Conference trip since the 1997-98 season, beating Golden State, Los Angeles Lakers and Utah. Carter notched a season-high 10 assists in a 99-82 win over Utah on January 29.

Miller helped the Kings to a 3-1 week by averaging 24.0 points on .683 shooting (3rd in the league), 12.0 rebounds (6th in the league) and 3.8 assists. He scored a season-high 31 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds against New Jersey on January 25.

Sonics Set To Take On Spurs With Or Without McMillan And Allen

The Seattle SuperSonics will host the San Antonio Spurs at 7 p.m. PST at the Key Arena, looking to make it three wins in a row over the NBA powerhouse, howerver they may have to do it minus a few important men.

Coach Nate McMillan is currently in North Carolina visiting his seriously ill mother while Ray Allen is nursing a case of the flu.

Nobody is sure if one or any of the two will show up for tonights showdown with the Spurs.

?We?ve got our work cut out for us,? Sonics associate head coach Dwane Casey said. ?That?s why we have to come in with our high beams on and our focus has to be totally on San Antonio regardless if Coach Mac is back or Ray is here.?

The Sonics are responsible for the Spurs only home loss of the season.
