Lebron's 40 Leads Cleveland To Their 5th Straight Win

Dec 29, 2004 5:32 AM

Lebron James scored 40 points, the 7th time he has scored more than 30 this season.  He also had 9 rebounds and 7 assists in the 111-102 win over the Hawks.

"There's not too many teams that play well on the road anyway," James said. "We've just got to come in with intensity like this every time we're on the road. It's simple as that."

"LeBron, that's what he's good at," McInnis said. "We all play behind LeBron. Like in the fourth quarter, LeBron told me to get going. I got on the pick-and-roll and got some baskets. He got Tractor Traylor into the game. We've got guys that can hurt you."

Walker To Philadelphia Rumor Deemed False

Dec 28, 2004 5:37 PM

A recent rumor trading Antoine Walker to a Philadelphia team that ?desperately? wants him has been shot down by Sixer?s coach Jim O?Brien.

My response to that would be, it's an overdone statement," Jim O'Brien said. "Now, I coached [Walker] in the past [with the Celtics]. I like Antoine Walker. But are we doing anything to get Antoine Walker? Not to my knowledge. There's nothing there. There really isn't. We've had no discussions about that, that I'm aware of."

Shaq And The Heat Win Their 12th Straight Game

Dec 28, 2004 2:08 AM

Miami defeated the Hawks on Monday night to win their 12th consecutive game.

The Shaquille O'Neal/Dwayne Wade duo combined for 58 points, winning 116-102.

"This win streak has shown us what we have as a team when we win close games," Wade said. "We've been doing it in the big stages and it proves where this team is headed."

"They're an awesome team," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "When you get off to a start like they have, they know that they're playing for a title. They have a legitimate shot of coming out of the East and getting to the Finals. They're a team that's playing with a purpose right now."

Sixers, Pacers And Celtics Have Interest In Antoine Walker

Dec 24, 2004 7:39 PM

Sources say that the Hawks are making Antoine Walker available and a host of Eastern Conference teams are interested, including the Sixers, Celtics and Pacers.

Sixers coach Jim O'Brien coached Walker when both parties were in Boston.

As strange as it might sound, Boston is a viable option for Walker.  Walker was upset when he was traded, but would welcome a return to Boston. "Antoine would be on a bus tonight. He'd walk here," said the source. "Boston has a chance to make the playoffs. Atlanta (5-20) has virtually none."

The Pacers are also interested, as they will play the remainder of the season without Ron Artest

Rockets Acquire Jon Barry

Dec 23, 2004 4:04 PM

The Atlanta Hawks today acquired guard Tyronn Lue from the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Jon Barry, according to Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight.

Tyronn is a hard-nosed defender who can push the ball up the court, Knight said. (Hawks assistant coach) Larry Drew coached him with the Lakers and in Washington so hes familiar with his abilities. He has a good attitude, and loves to play, so were looking forward to having him.

At the same time, this was done because of the development of our young players  Josh Childress, Josh Smith and Royal Ivey, Knight added. We like the way theyre emerging and growing. We didnt feel like there would be a lot of playing time for Jon at that shooting guard position.

A seventh-year guard from Nebraska, Lue has appeared in 21 games (3 starting assignments) this season with the Rockets, averaging 6.0 ppg, 2.8 apg and 1.9 rpg (.393 FG%, .333 3FG%, .778 FT%).

He spent his first three NBA seasons with the Lakers, winning an NBA championship ring in 2001. He signed as a free agent with Washington on July 18, 2001. After two seasons with the Wizards, he signed as a free agent with the Orlando Magic on July 23, 2003. He was traded to Houston on June 29, 2004 in a seven-player deal.

Originally drafted by Denver in the first round (23rd overall) of the 1998 NBA Draft, his draft rights were traded to the Lakers on draft night. Tyronn (TIE-ron) Jamar Lue was born May 3, 1977 in Mexico, Missouri and attended Raytown (Missouri) High School.

Barry, who signed with Atlanta on September 16, 2004, played in 16 contests for the Hawks, and posted 5.2 ppg, 1.8 apg and 1.3 rpg (.403 FG%, .344 3FG%, .769 FT%).

In his 13th NBA season, Barry has also played for Milwaukee, Golden State, LA Lakers, Sacramento, Detroit and Denver. Additionally, Barry played in 58 games for the Hawks during the 1996-97 campaign.

Atlanta Defeats Dallas A Day After The Mavs Humiliate The Knicks

Dec 23, 2004 3:57 AM

The Dallas Mavericks embarassed the Knicks at The Garden on Tuesday night, and just 24 hours later, they found themselves in the locker room with a loss to the 4-20 Atlanta Hawks.

Atlanta was guided to the win by the veteran play of Antoine Walker and the solid performances of three rookies.

"I think it's great," Walker said. "They are the future of this team and we need them. They catch a lot of teams by surprise, because some teams don't know what they're good at."

Celtics Courting Antoine Walker?

Dec 21, 2004 5:32 PM

According to Peter Vecsey of The New York Post, the Boston Celtics are now trying to renew acquaintances with ousted forward Antoine Walker.

Although Walker leads the Hawks in scoring, they may be looking to unload as their chances at the playoffs this season are null.  Walker is in the final year of his contract that will pay him $14.625M for the season.  The Celtics would have to come up with a package within 15% (plus 100G) or roughly $12M to make the deal.  A No. 1 pick or two would also sweeten the deal for the Hawks.

While it is unclear why Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations, Danny Ainge wants Walker back after unloading him two summers ago, the deal does seem very possible.

Kidd Plays First Game Without An Assist

Dec 12, 2004 4:17 AM

Jason Kidd played his first game on Saturday night without a single assist in his 11-year career.  The Nets did get the win, beating the Hawks by a final score of 95-90.

Richard Jefferson did play a very good game, scoring 21 points.

"If you look at the games that he's been back, my scoring in the second half has increased because he gets other people involved," Jefferson said. "He makes it easier for other people. In the second half, I have a little bit more legs."

Kidd did have 9 points in just 17 minutes of play, as Travis Best got the lion share of the minutes at the point guard position.
