Boston Nearly Makes History, Demolish Knicks By 45 Points

Nov 29, 2007 10:56 PM

The Knicks' brief winning streak is history, and the Celtics nearly made history ending it.

The Celtics cruised to one of the easiest victories ever on Thursday night, beating New York 104-59 to send the Knicks to their third-worst loss and their second-worst scoring performance of the shot-clock era.

Only Nate Robinson's 37-foot 3-pointer at the final buzzer saved the Knicks from an even bigger embarrassment.

Celtics' Ray Allen To Play, Tony Allen Unlikely

Nov 27, 2007 5:11 PM

Tony Allen and Ray Allen both didn?t practice yesterday, and it looks like just the latter will be able to play tonight in Cleveland.

Tony Allen bruised his right thigh in the first half against the Bobcats on Saturday. He?ll likely be sidelined at least one game.

Ray Allen, meanwhile, rolled his right ankle in the win. He didn?t tell anyone about the injury that occurred with 4:24 left, and it was a good thing. He hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Ray Allen's Trey Buries Bobcats At Buzzer

Nov 25, 2007 1:16 AM

Ray Allen made a 3-pointer at the buzzer after Eddie House knocked away Jason Richardson's inbounds pass with 4.7 seconds left to give the Boston Celtics a 96-95 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday night.

Allen had missed 11 of his previous 14 shots in a flat performance for the Celtics yet hit nothing but net on the jumper from the left wing, setting off a wild celebration for the Celtics, who won their third straight game and improved to 11-1.

Paul Pierce scored 23 points, and Kevin Garnett had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Celtics, who had gone more than 3 minutes without scoring until Allen's bucket.

Kevin Garnett had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the new Big Three in its first game against the rival Lakers, and Paul Pierce added 20 points and nine assists to help the Celtics beat Los Angeles 107-94 on Friday night.

Kobe Bryant scored 28 points for Los Angeles, which got no help from having California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger sitting courtside. Instead, the Celtics fired up the crowd for the renewal of the rivalry by putting a muscle-bound clip of Schwarzenegger's movie "Predator" on the scoreboard.

Warriors Offered Harrington, Biedrins, Monta And 18th Pick For KG?

Nov 20, 2007 11:27 AM

Before Kevin Garnett was dealt to Boston in the offseason, Golden State quietly made a strong push to acquire the 10-time All-Star.

"When you have a chance to get one of the three best players in the league, of course you try," said Warriors' executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin. "The fact is, he was dealt somewhere else. You can't make someone deal it to you. You move forward. When those great players come up, you're automatically interested."

Garnett's agent Andy Miller didn't believe the Wolves were serious about trading their all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocks, and assists until early June. Eager to add the future Hall of Famer, the Celtics, Warriors, Lakers, Bulls, and Mavericks were the main teams showing interest, according to an NBA source.

The source said the Warriors' package for Garnett included forward Al Harrington, center Andris Biedrins, guard Monta Ellis, and the 18th pick in this year's draft. The Lakers dangled forward Lamar Odom and center Andrew Bynum but couldn't acquire a high draft pick to sweeten the offer. Chicago spoke of sending Ben Gordon or Luol Deng, plus Tyrus Thomas, Thabo Sefolosha, and P.J. Brown in a sign-and-trade and their ninth overall pick for Garnett and another player. Dallas offered anybody but 2007 NBA MVP Dirk Nowitzki.

Magic Deals Boston Its First Loss

Nov 18, 2007 11:27 PM

The Celtics' big three -- and big 3-point attack -- come up short Sunday.

The NBA's best-shooting team, the Celtics found themselves uncharacteristicly down 20 points and still trailing after three quarters. They came back and made it close, but Paul Pierce missed an off-balance jumper with time running out and Orlando dealt Boston (8-1) its first loss, 104-102.

Celtics' Garnett Not Interested In Team USA

Nov 15, 2007 5:05 PM

With all due respect to the red, white, and blue, Kevin Garnett is focused on wearing Celtic green.

USA Basketball president Jim Tooley confirmed that Garnett was approached about joining its 2008 Beijing Olympic squad within the last week. The first-year Celtics forward won a gold medal while playing for the United States during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Tooley, however, said the 10-time All-Star respectfully declined the invitation.

"There is no discussion about that," Garnett said. "I don't want to discuss that. They know that."

Said Tooley: "We understand his decision and respect it. He's with a good team and he's focused on that."
