Austin Rivers Would Love To Play For Celtics

Mar 30, 2012 10:30 PM

Austin Rivers is intrigued by the prospect of playing for his father, Celtics coach Doc Rivers.

"If that was to happen, I would love to," Rivers said Friday." "I would love to play for any organization in the NBA. That's my dream. It would be great. It would be different. It would be an interesting aspect just to play for my dad."

Rivers said that if he were to be drafted by the Celtics, he'd want to be treated like any other player.

"If I'm messing up, I want him to be hard on me. If I'm doing good, I want him to pat me on the back. That's the way he coaches," Rivers said during the radio interview. "However he coaches(Rajon) Rondo or Kevin Garnett or Avery Bradleyor any other player on that team, I want him to coach me. I don't want anything handed to me. I never have my whole life. I would have to mature and accept that responsibility. That's one of the things you look forward to when you decide to go pro."

Ray Allen May Return Friday

Mar 28, 2012 8:33 PM

The Celtics were without Ray Allen for the fourth consecutive game on Wednesday as they hosted the Jazz.

Allen has not played since March 22 against the Bucks when he sustained a right ankle injury.

Doc Rivers initially said that Allen was doing “great,” but then announced that he wouldn’t be in the lineup.

“He’s not doing great enough to play,” Rivers said. “He went through shootaround and just didn’t feel right. We are hoping for Friday.”

Boston has dealt with a number of injuries this season, which has left Rivers prepared to deal with the absence of Allen.

“I’m not that concerned by it,” said Rivers. “I wouldn’t know anyway, so there is no reason for me to worry about it. We’ve had a lot of [injuries] this year, so he’ll be fine. You just hope it doesn’t become one of those things that linger, where you play a couple of games and then have to sit out a couple. But I don’t see that happening.”

Avery Bradley will continue to start in place of Allen.

Pietrus Released From Hospital Following Scary Fall

Mar 24, 2012 1:22 PM

Mickael Pietrus fell awkwardly onto his back in the second quarter of Boston's 99-86 loss to the Sixers on Friday.

Pietrus remained motionless for several minutes and was removed from the court on a stretcher.

Pietrus was immediately taken to the hospital for tests with what was initially described as a “questionable closed head injury.’’

“He’s already had an X-ray [and] CT [scan]. He’s doing an MRI right now," Doc Rivers said after the game.

Pietrus was not hospitalized and returned to the team's hotel. He was cleared to travel on Saturday morning.

O'Neal To Undergo Surgery On Wrist, Done For 11-12

Mar 19, 2012 6:40 PM

Jermaine O’Neal will undergo surgery on his left wrist and will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 season.

O’Neal has a chronic degenerative wrist condition that was exacerbated after a fall during the Celtics’ game against the Dallas Mavericks on February 20th. The wrist has not responded to immobilization and physical therapy, and the decision was made to proceed with surgery.

“Jermaine worked hard to get himself in condition to play this season despite his ongoing wrist issues,” said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. “He played through pain the entire year and gave us all he could, but unfortunately after the fall against Dallas there simply wasn’t anything else he could do. We appreciate his contributions to our team over the last two years.”
