Celtics Lead Among Teams Negotiating Rights To Romero Osby

Oct 30, 2013 3:46 PM

With the Boston Celtics as the leading candidate to acquire his rights, Romero Osby is finalizing a deal to sign in the NBA D-League, league sources told RealGM.

Osby was a final cut of the Orlando Magic, who selected the rugged, active forward with the No. 51 pick in the NBA draft. Since Osby’s release in training camp, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Brooklyn Nets have also expressed interest in him, sources said.

Fort Wayne currently owns rights to Osby, but the Celtics’ D-League affiliate – the Maine Red Claws – is working to acquire the 23-year-old. The Celtics have one roster spot open and could call up Osby at a point that is flexible on the team’s salary situation.

Osby averaged 16 points and seven rebounds last season at the University of Oklahoma. He was part of the Magic’s summer league team and became one of the last rookie signings to officially join his drafted organization.

In seven preseason games for the Magic, Osby averaged 5.7 points and four rebounds in 15.4 minutes a game.

Oct 25, 2013 1:05 PM

Danny Ainge had said he did not expect the Boston Celtics to engage in contract extension talks with Avery Bradley until next offseason, but the general manager says the two sides are now negotiating.

Ainge declined to comment beyond saying the Celtics are discussing a deal with Bradley's representatives.

Bradley will become a restricted free agent next summer if a deal is not reached by Oct. 31.

With Rajon Rondo injured, Bradley is expected to take a larger role on the Celtics this season.

Rondo Will Return As Soon As He Can Dunk Again Off Right Leg

Oct 24, 2013 11:39 AM

Rajon Rondo expects to return this season from his ACL surgery, but he is not yet sure when.

“Whenever I’m able to jump off my right leg and probably dunk, that’s when I think I’ll be back to play,” Rondo said.

Rondo is not allowed to do contract drills, but he did just get fitted for his first brace.

Rondo said his right leg is at about 87 percent, “give or take, depending on how my day goes.”

Rondo wants to return as his old self.

“If they want me to ease into it — it’s going to be hard to tell me to ease into something,” he said. “Once I get back out there, I want to go full speed. I don’t want any limitation. That’s when I’ll return, when I’m able to do that."

Rondo: This Is My Team, Why Would I Want To Leave Boston?

Oct 9, 2013 12:39 PM

Rajon Rondo is recovering from a torn ACL amid the Boston Celtics' makeover of their roster. Rondo last took the floor with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, who were traded to the Brooklyn Nets on draft night.

Rondo has been mentioned in trade rumors as Danny Ainge starts from scratch. But Rondo disagreed with the notion that he could be the next player traded.

“I love it here," Rondo said. "The fans are great here. And Danny [Ainge] has been straightforward with me. This is my team. Why would I want to leave? Why would I want out? I never really backed away from a challenge. This would be a challenge. I’m looking forward to working with coach [Brad] Stevens. It’s a brand new start for us as a team. A lot of new players and a lot of young guys willing to listen, so I’m very excited.”
