Rajon Rondo: Brad Stevens And I 'Have Become Best Friends'

Sep 30, 2013 11:55 PM

Rajon Rondo discussed on Monday his growing relationship with Brad Stevens, regularly lunching, texting and sharing books and YouTube videos over email.

When asked how close the two are, Rondo described the relationship as "best friends."

"Me and Brad have become best friends," Rondo said. "We talk every day, we laugh and joke. We just had dinner the other night. I'm going to help him, he's going to help me.

"He has my full support. I told him from Day 1 when he came to my camcp that I'm behind him 100 percent. Whatever he wants to do, whatever he wants to change, I have an open mind. I'm ready to listen and to be accountable for what he wants to do."

Rondo still does not have a timetable about when he will return to the court from a torn ACL, but he expects to come back to the Boston Celtics at some point this season.

Celtics Plan To Discuss New Deal For Avery Bradley Next Summer

Sep 24, 2013 2:31 PM

The Boston Celtics have until Oct. 31 to work out a contract extension with Avery Bradley, and Danny Ainge says nothing is imminent between the two sides.

The Celtics might wait until after the upcoming season to revisit discussions.

"We may talk in October, but most likely next summer," Ainge said.

Bradley will likely serve as the starting point guard with Rajon Rondo out.

"Avery is a guy I really believe in," Brad Stevens said. "I think Avery has a lot of opportunity to be a very, very good player on both ends of the floor. I don’t know exactly how we’ll progress from here, as far as that goes with regard to if Rajon is in, who’s in what role, but I know Avery will be on the court. I think he’s a guy that, when you look at him on both ends of the floor, he’s a guy that I think we can fit in well offensively at the point guard spot."

Paul Pierce Envisions Potential Future Role In Celtics' Organization

Sep 22, 2013 3:32 PM

Paul Pierce made it clear he holds no grudges against the Celtics for trading him to the Brooklyn Nets this offseason, after spending his entire career in Boston.

Pierce points toward a future relationship with the Celtics' organization.

“Who knows? I may be working for Wyc Grousbeck or Danny Ainge,” Pierce said. “A lot of players don’t understand it. I’ve always understood it. And [other players] let their pride and ego get in the way. I’ve made a lot of money here, I’ve built relationships, won a championship here, I thank y’all for everything y’all gave me. How can I be mad for everything they’ve given me. I’m thankful.”

Pierce added he "would love to" open a substantial mark in Boston, such as a sports bar.

"I am going to still have relationships here," Pierce said. "I’m always going to come to this city. Every year, when I’m done, I’m going to have a reason to come here.”

Report: Rajon Rondo Likely To Miss Entire Preseason, Start Of Regular Season

Sep 15, 2013 10:25 PM

Rajon Rondo has not had a setback in his recovery from a torn ACL, but it is looking more and more likely that the All-Star guard will miss all of the Boston Celtics' preseason games as well as the start of the regular season, according to a report.

Rondo was in Boston last week and did on court work with Brad Stevens.

"He's obviously limited in what he can do on the court," Stevens said. "But he's a worker. That was one thing that was very noticeable."

Stevens added there is no timetable for Rondo's return.

Danny Ainge has consistently stated he expects Rondo to return sometime in the upcoming season.

Kelly Olynyk Progressing, Hoping He Won't Be Limited

Sep 14, 2013 12:32 PM

Plantar fasciitis forced Kelly Olynyk to skip training with the Canadian national team this summer, but the rookie said on Friday that he is progressing.

"It's getting a lot better," said Olynyk. "Obviously, we’re still taking precautionary measures to make sure I’m ready to go for training camp; hopefully it doesn’t linger throughout the year."

Pressed on if he expected to be limited at all by the foot ailment, Olynyk added, "Hopefully not, that would be the best thing. And hopefully it doesn’t limit me throughout the year."

Olynyk starred on the Boston Celtics' summer league team in July.

Doc Rivers Admits Celtics Made Mistake Trading Perkins For Green

Sep 13, 2013 3:44 PM

Doc Rivers returned to the TD Garden on Wednesday and admitted the Boston Celtics' trade of Kendrick Perkins for Jeff Green in 2011 was a mistake -- one that hurt Kevin Garnett.

“I think so,” reflected Rivers, “because we needed the toughness. The one thing we did by losing Perk was we removed Kevin’s protector. I didn’t think it was a coincidence that, after Perk left, that Kevin got into all those little flicks with the other teams. Perk deflected all that.”

Perkins reached the 2012 NBA Finals with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Green performed well in last season's playoffs after a sporadic regular season.

Kris Humphries Doesn't Want To Be Part Of 'Tanking Situation'

Sep 13, 2013 4:14 PM

Kris Humphries has spent the summer working on his game and says he is ready "to compete for a big role" on his new team, the Boston Celtics.

Humphries has heard talk that the Celtics are trying to tank next season, but he does not want to be part of that situation and does not believe that is where Boston is headed.

"I'm not looking to be a part of a tanking situation," Humphries said. "I know that [president of basketball operations] Danny Ainge has said that they're not looking to tank, and I'm sure Brad Stevens coming in is definitely not looking to do that. So it's just about competing and bringing it every night. We're going to have to figure out ways to win and continue to get better, and it starts with camp."

Humphries is motivated by the fact no one considers the Celtics as part of the Eastern Conference contenders.

"We're out to try to prove that we're a team that can compete every night, and whenever people sort of write you off, it's a lot of motivation," he said.
