Celtics Offered Four First Rounders To Hornets For No. 9

Jul 28, 2015 10:28 AM

The Boston Celtics offered four first-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets for the chance to move up from No. 16 to No. 9. The Celtics were targeting Justise Winslow while the Hornets were settled on taking Frank Kaminsky.

The Celtics offered the 16th pick, No. 15 (acquired in a prearranged contingency deal with the Atlanta Hawks), one unprotected future Brooklyn pick, and a future first-rounder from either the Memphis Grizzlies or Minnesota Timberwolves.

Some members of the Hornets' front office wanted to do the deal with the Celtics, but Michael Jordan preferred Kaminsky over first rounders outside the lottery.

“If it was such a no-brainer for us, why would another team want to do it?” said Rich Cho.

Heat Trade Zoran Dragic To Celtics

Jul 27, 2015 12:27 PM

The Boston Celtics have acquired Zoran Dragic and a second round pick from the Miami Heat.

The pick is unlikely to ever change hands.

Miami will also send cash to Boston to help cover Dragic's salary. The trade helps the Heat considerably with the luxury tax.

The trade did not upset Goran Dragic, who is hoping his brother will get more chances at playing time with the Celtics.

The Celtics were able to take Dragic into their salary-cap space.

Jae Crowder, Celtics Agree Upon Five-Year, $35M Deal

Jul 2, 2015 3:11 AM

Boston Celtics restricted free agent Jae Crowder has reached agreement on a five-year, $35 million contract to re-sign with the organization, league sources told RealGM.

The Celtics and Dallas Mavericks were leaders in pursuit of Crowder during the first day of free agency, but Crowder and Boston made progress and agreed to terms late Wednesday night.

Crowder, the 34th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, spent his first two seasons with the Mavericks before being dealt midway through the year to Boston.

In 57 games for the Celtics, Crowder established himself as a two-way presence for Brad Stevens, averaging 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 24.2 minutes per game. He scored 10.8 points and grabbed five rebounds a game in the postseason.

Crowder and the Celtics had long made clear their mutual interest in reuniting, and the 6-foot-6 forward has used the offseason to return to the stellar form he displayed before a season-ending knee injury against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs.

Out of Marquette, Crowder, 24, has averages of 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and one assist in three NBA seasons.
