Oct 20, 2016 10:56 AM

Marcus Smart suffered a left ankle sprain in Wednesday's preseason game and will be out for multiple weeks.

It is the same ankle that Smart has sprained before, but it doesn’t appear to be as bad a previous ankle sprain.

Smart was helped to the locker room by teammates as he didn't put any weight on the ankle.

Bulls Sought Additional Starter-Level Player From Celtics In Jimmy Butler Talks

Oct 17, 2016 4:08 PM

The Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls held discussions at the draft centered on Jimmy Butler.

According to the Chicago Tribune, one of the proposals was Jae Crowder, the No. 3 pick and the No. 16 pick. The Bulls would have used the pick on Kris Dunn.

A source says the Bulls also demanded an additional starter-level player in the trade.

Butler was an All-Star in 2015 and 2016 but the Celtics felt the price was exorbitant.

Danny Ainge Prepared To Not Cash In Assets 'If That's The Best Path'

Oct 17, 2016 3:59 PM

While the Boston Celtics are setup to possibly make multiple blockbuster trades as they did in 2007 when they acquired both Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in a single postseason, Danny Ainge won't rush into a move and won't necessarily ever make one of their magnitude.

The Celtics were linked to a trade for Jimmy Butler at the draft and also reportedly had interest in Russell Westbrook.

“When you make mistakes is when you say you have to do something,” Ainge said. “There’s a lot of names out there that we’ve talked with about trying to acquire, but we wouldn’t pay the price. We’re prepared to build on what we have if that’s the best path.”

Boston has made two excellent smaller trades in acquiring Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder.

“We’re trying to find deals. And sometimes you have to make small deals in order to be able to have big deals,” Ainge said. “You have to put yourself in position with good young players and good contracts and future assets. It puts us in the game if there’s a player that becomes available in the trade market, but they have to like those young players and assets,” he continued. “In the meantime, we’re not sitting around and waiting for something like that to happen. We’re trying to make something like that happen, but we’re not just chasing every player out there.”

Celtics Continue To Have Real Interest In Gordon Hayward

Oct 12, 2016 12:03 PM

The Boston Celtics continue to have real interest in Gordon Hayward.

Hayward will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason and the Celtics will have a max contract and a chance to reunite with Brad Stevens to offer him.

Hayward signed a four-year, $63 million offer sheet with Charlotte in 2014 that was matched by the Utah Jazz.

Hayward has been one of the NBA's best wings to not make an All-Star Game.

Celtics Interested In Signing J.R. Smith

Oct 9, 2016 5:15 PM

The Boston Celtics have interest in signing J.R. Smith, who remains in a contract stalemate with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Smith is seeking $15 million per season from the Cavaliers while they are only offering $10 million or $11 million annually.

The Celtics would have to clear substantial cap space to sign Smith to a competitive deal.

Boston has Avery Bradley as their starting shooting guard.

The report also indicates there are several other teams with interest in Smith.
