Ryan McDonough regrets his decision for the Phoenix Suns to trade Isaiah Thomas to the Boston Celtics during the 2015 trade deadline for a first round pick.

“I think in retrospect trading Isaiah Thomas when we did was a mistake,” McDonough said. “I think sometimes in the recruitment process things sound better in July (luring Thomas in free agency) than they do in November.

“He wanted more, he wanted a bigger role and I understand why: He’s a talented player,” McDonough added. “In retrospect, we should have carried him into the summer. If there’s one (decision) that stands out, if I could get a mulligan, that’d be it.”

The Boston Celtics expressed interest in trading for Carmelo Anthony before the deadline.

It's unclear if the talks ever reached an advanced stage, but the Celtics were told Anthony had no desire to leave the Knicks for Boston.

Anthony gave an interesting response recently when asked if another season without a berth in the playoffs would cause him to reconsider his future with the New York Knicks.

“Not yet. Not yet. Not yet," Anthony said. “I’m pretty sure I’ll have that conversation with myself, my family, my team [agents]. That’s not a conversation right now."

Several teams could be in position to trade for Anthony in the offseason due to the rising cap.

David Lee is expected to sign with the Dallas Mavericks for the room exception of $2.1 million after he clears waivers.

Lee was waived by the Boston Celtics on Friday.

The Boston Celtics were close to trading David Lee's expiring $15.5 million contract in a deadline deal.

The Celtics instead waived Lee.

“We almost had trades a few times, or thought there was a possibility,” Ainge said. “His contract was a good way for us to get into a lot of the conversations we had."

The Celtics viewed Lee as a valuable chip in a potential blockbuster trade.

Al Horford was one player with a large contract the Celtics reportedly held trade talks on.

The Boston Celtics have waived David Lee.

The Dallas Mavericks are significant frontrunners to sign Lee once he clears waivers.

David Lee is a likely candidate for a buyout as he's fallen out of the Boston Celtics' rotation.

Lee is believed to be prioritizing the opportunity to play minutes over joining a team with championship aspirations.

Lee will be a free agent in the offseason and he'd like to secure another significant contract.

Players have to be bought out by March 1st to become eligible to play for a team in the playoffs.

The Boston Celtics never made a legitimate offer to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kevin Love.

For their part, the Cavaliers never gave a price for Love.

The Cavaliers have only considered LeBron James and Kyrie Irving untouchable ahead of the deadline.

The Boston Celtics are the favorites to trade for Al Horford if the Atlanta Hawks decide to make a trade before the deadline.

Horford is in the final season of a five-year, $60 million deal. Horford will turn 30 in June and wants to sign a five-year deal instead of a four-year one that he'd be forced to sign if he were to leave the team he ends up with at the end of this season.

Horford was asked about the trade rumors during All-Star weekend.

“For me, I ask for guidance but at the end of the day I understand the business of everything,” Horford said at the time. “I know how everything works. For me, I need to stay diligent, keep doing what I do and whatever happens, happens.”

The Boston Celtics were one of the teams that the Los Angeles Clippers have received calls from in regards to Blake Griffin.

The Celtics have perhaps the deepest collection of tradable assets with their future draft picks.

“When I’m looking at players out there, I’m looking at players that can make a big difference,” Danny Ainge said, “not players that can win us two games or anything like that. That’s not my objective.

“Our objective is not to keep us in the No. 3 seed in the East and maybe move up a bit, other than that’s our players’ objective and that’s our coaches’ objective. I think those are amazing goals, and it’s been fun watching this team compete and beating some of the good teams along the way. But our objective is to put together a team that can compete for championships.

“Listen, we’re just a few games from being at seven or eight, and it wasn’t too long ago that we were the ninth seed in the East. So, no, I don’t pay that much attention to the standings. I look more at how we’re playing and where our holes are and what we need to do.”

The Boston Celtics have been attempting to trade away David Lee and his $15.5 million expiring contract.

Lee, however, has not been generating any interest on the trade market. The Celtics are only likely to trade Lee as salary cap filler in a blockbuster deal.

Lee fell out of Brad Stevens' rotation earlier in the season.

“David Lee was tough for Golden State to move all of last year,” said a source. “And it finally came down to him being moved for Gerald Wallace. David Lee has no value. It’s his contract. David Lee’s value comes in if they get one of these big name players.”
