John Holland has been waived by the Boston Celtics.
Holland signed a two-year deal with the Celtics late last season. Holland didn't appear in any games with the Celtics.
Holland averaged 16.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 30.2 minutes per game last season in the D-League.
Phil Jackson said his biggest mistake since taking over the New York Knicks was not taking Jae Crowder in the Tyson Chandler trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
Crowder emerged as one of the NBA's best defensive players since his trade to the Boston Celtics.
"One of the first deals I engineered when I came back to New York was to trade Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to Dallas for Shane Larkin, Jose Calderon, Wayne Ellington, Samuel Dalembert, plus a second-round pick that the Mavs owed to the Celtics," said Jackson. "In talking with (Dallas), I was given the option of taking that pick or else taking Jae Crowder. I liked Crowder but I thought he wouldn’t get much of a chance to play behind Carmelo, so I took the pick which turned out to be Cleanthony Early. While Cleanthony has missed lots of time in the past two seasons with us, he still has the potential to be a valuable player. Even so, I should have taken Crowder.
“Anyway, for all of us, making mistakes are part of the learning process."
The Boston Celtics have renounced the draft rights to Colton Iverson.
Iverson didn't figure in the Celtics' plans and this gives him the opportunity to try to make an NBA roster elsewhere.
Iverson was a second round pick in 2013 who has played Internationally in each of the past three seasons.
The Boston Celtics will have R.J. Hunter, James Young, John Holland and Ben Bentil will compete for their last roster spot.
Young and Hunter have guaranteed deals, Bentil has a partial guarantee, and Holland is non-guaranteed. Young and Hunter are former first round picks.
Hunter is the favorite to emerge from the group.
“I’m a competitor, so it’s just absolutely motivation for me,” Hunter said in a telephone interview. “I think it just adds an extra competitive spirit to training camp, which is a great way to get the year started.
“So I’d rather have it that way, because now I have no reason not to be on my toes on every possession and at every practice. So I’ll try to use it to my advantage.”
Abdel Nader has committed to signing a contract in the D-League with the Maine Red Claws.
Nader received significant offers in Europe as well.
Nader played for the Celtics in Summer League after he was the 58th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of Iowa State.
The Boston Celtics have signed Marcus Georges-Hunt to a camp deal.
Georges-Hunt played for the Brooklyn Nets in Summer League.
Georges-Hunt went undrafted out of Georgia Tech.
Georges-Hunt is a 6'5 wing who averaged 16.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists as a senior.

Isaiah Thomas has been compared to Allen Iverson as one of the NBA's best scorers despite being under 6'0.
Thomas made his first All-Star Game in 2016 with the Boston Celtics.
"There will never be another Allen Iverson but I'm for damn sure going to be the closest thing to you LOL," wrote Thomas on Instagram.
Thomas attended a gala hosted by Iverson over the weekend in Philadelphia.
Abdel Nader is reluctant to agree upon a stash arrangement with the Boston Celtics.
“He’s an NBA player, that’s my belief,” said Nader’s agent, Cervando Tejeda. “Right now, we have to decide what the next move is.”
The Celtics drafted Nader 58th overall out of Iowa State.
“I’ve been playing basketball my whole life, and I feel very comfortable anytime I’m out there on the court,” Nader said in a telephone interview. “I was excited to play in summer league. It was a great opportunity and it was a blast. I prepared for it, and when you know you’re prepared, it brings a little extra swagger.”
After averaging 10.3 minutes in three games in Utah, he seized a larger role in the more competitive Las Vegas summer league and thrived.
Nader scored 64 points over five games there, second only to No. 3 overall pick Jaylen Brown.
The Celtics recently signed rookie point guard Demetrius Jackson, the 45th overall pick, to a four-year, $5.5 million deal that is fully guaranteed this season, and they signed No. 51 pick Ben Bentil to a three-year deal that is partially guaranteed this season. Nader outplayed both of them during the summer.
Ray Allen has spoken with the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks about a possible deal for the 16-17 season.
Allen is considering an NBA return after not playing two seasons.
Allen has also been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs.
"My decision is predicated on what is available," he said. "I said that I was interested because I never retired for a reason. I've been watching, seeing what teams have been doing and I've been waiting to see if the opportunity presented itself where I think I could fit."
Allen has previously played for both the Bucks and Celtics.
"I would love going back to those places if it worked out," Allen said, "because both teams are good, too. It doesn't necessarily have to be championship-or-bust for me to go back to the NBA.
"I want to be in a situation where I thought I could help, play a little bit and help where they have good young talent."
