Nets Considering Arturas Karnisovas, Gersson Rosas For GM Job

Jan 25, 2016 11:58 AM

The Brooklyn Nets' general manager search has widened beyond Bryan Colangelo and Danny Ferry.

Denver Nuggets assistant GM Arturas Karnisovas and Houston Rockets executive VP of basketball operations Gersson Rosas are also candidates.

The Nets would like to have a general manager i place before the Feb. 18th trade deadline.

Karnisovas and Rosas fit the Nets' desire to have a more global scouting focus, something ownership believes was lacking under the previous regime.

Brooklyn fired Billy King as general manager this month.

Nets Expected To Pursue Tom Thibodeau As Head Coach

Jan 16, 2016 12:09 PM

The Brooklyn Nets are expected to pursue Tom Thibodeau as head coach once they hire a new general manager.

The Nets also have been linked strongly to John Calipari, largely because of Calipari's strong ties to Brooklyn CEO Brett Yormark, but there is a growing sense in league circles that team owner Mikhail Prokhorov wants to hire established NBA names with considerable experience in the league.

Tony Brown is currently serving as the Nets' interim coach.

Thibodeau was fired by the Bulls after the playoffs last season.

Nets Considering Danny Ferry For GM Job

Jan 14, 2016 10:37 AM

Joining Bryan Colangelo as a candidate for the Brooklyn Nets' general manager position is Danny Ferry.

Ferry was interviewed by Mikhail Prokhorov for the job back in 2010 before Billy King was hired.

Ferry's father, Bob Ferry, is still employed by the Nets as a scout.

Ferry was forced to step down as general manager of the Atlanta Hawks last year due to a power struggle within the organization and racially insensitive comments made about Luol Deng.

Ferry helped build the Hawks into the Eastern Conference's best regular season team last year.

Nets Strongly Considering Bryan Colangelo For GM

Jan 13, 2016 11:12 AM

The Brooklyn Nets are considering hiring Bryan Colangelo for their general manager vacancy.

Colangelo has a strong track record in building contenders with the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors. Colangelo stepped down as president of the Raptors in June of 2013.

There is also a growing belief within the league that Prokhorov is leaning more on Sergey Kushchenko.

The Nets are looking for a replacement for Billy King.

Thad Young, Brook Lopez Working On Recruiting Free Agents

Jan 13, 2016 12:40 AM

For the Brooklyn Nets to become good in the short-term, they almost certainly will need to find success in free agency.

Thaddeus Young and Brook Lopez are already pitching the idea of playing in Brooklyn to free agents.

“We have some cap space going into free agency for ’16 so I think that’s the biggest key, just luring those free agents,” Young said after practice. “Me and Brook have been trying to talk to guys that we think we would want to play with and just get them to take a look at us.”

Young wouldn’t say specifically who he’s talked to, but he seems to think the Nets can land “superstars.”

“With [Lopez and I] being guys that [came] up with some of the superstars in this league,” Young said. “And being in that good age group, which is the 27-, 28-, 26-year-old guys, [we're] trying to get some of those guys to come here.”

Kevin Durant is the most prominent free agent of the 2016 class.

Dmitry Razumov Played Major Role In Nets' Trade For Garnett, Pierce

Jan 12, 2016 1:15 PM

Billy King spent his tenure with the Brooklyn Nets in constant "win-now" mode.

Mikhail Prokhorov and his chief basketball lieutenant, Dmitry Razumov, approved every move made by King.

Razumov reportedly played a major role in the Nets' trade for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, which will send their 2016, 2017 (pick swap) and 2018 first rounders to the Boston Celtics.

"He still thinks they're only a year away from competing," a veteran team executive said Monday. "You're like three or four years away."

Joe Johnson has no interest in seeking a buyout from the Brooklyn Nets.

Johnson's contract is for $25 million, making it difficult for the Nets to trade him to a team before the deadline.

Mikhail Prokhorov To Be More Active With Nets

Jan 11, 2016 11:19 AM

Mikhail Prokhorov intends to spend more time with a hands on role with the Brooklyn Nets.

Prokhorov fired Billy King and Lionel Hollins over the weekend.

Prokhorov said the Nets are looking for a separate general manager and head coach. The Nets also won't be in a rush to fill either role.

While the Nets likely have a long road back to the playoffs, Prokhorov continues to say he wants the team to be a title contender immediately.

“I hope we’ll be back not as a playoff team, but as a championship contender. This is my only goal," said Prokhorov.
