Bobcats Sign Second Rounder Hollins

The Charlotte Bobcats signed center Ryan Hollins, the team's second-round draft pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.

Hollins, a starter on UCLA's NCAA Final Four team this past season, was the 50th overall selection.

"Ryan Hollins is a terrific athlete for a seven-footer and he is an intelligent player who works hard. He will have an opportunity to earn playing time with our team as he continues to develop," Bobcats General Manager & Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "We are fortunate to get a player with his size and athleticism with the 50th pick."

"I have waited for this day to come for a long time. I am thrilled to be joining a first-class organization and to have the opportunity to be a part of something special," Hollins said. "This is a really talented team with a great coaching staff and I look forward to being a part of the Charlotte community and getting to know the fans."

The Bobcats have re-signed Bernard Robinson, their second round pick in 2004.

Bickerstaff's Son/Assistant Coach Arrested On DWI Charge

John-Blair Bickerstaff, son of Charlotte Bobcats head coach Bernie Bickerstaff and an assistant coach on the team, was arrested last week in a DWI case.

Bickerstaff is the youngest assistant coach in the NBA.

Judge Rules For Michael Jordan In Legal Battle With Woman

A judge ruled Friday for Michael Jordan in a legal battle between the former NBA star and a woman who claimed Jordan reneged on a promise to pay her $5 million in hush money when she claimed she was pregnant with his child.

Judge Stuart E. Palmer ruled in Cook County Circuit Court that any alleged agreement between Jordan and Karla Knafel would be invalid, pointing to definitive tests that showed Jordan is not the child's father.

Bobcats Sign Othella Harrington

The Charlotte Bobcats signed free agent forward Othella Harrington on Wednesday.

"Othella complements our team well and is a veteran player who can serve as a mentor to our younger players in the frontcourt," said Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff, who's also the team's general manager. "He brings the toughness that we have displayed in our first two seasons and he understands his role in the team concept on both ends of the floor."

Bobcats Re-sign Point Guard Burleson

The Charlotte Bobcats have re-signed third-string point guard Kevin Burleson for next season.

The Bobcats chose not to make a qualifying offer that would have made Burleson a restricted free agent, but at the time earlier this month coach/general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said he was conferring with Burleson.

Burleson, who recently played on the Bobcats' summer-league team in Orlando, Fla., is expected to back up Raymond Felton and Brevin Knight.

Close Associate Of Jordan To Be Named Bobcats' President

The Charlotte Bobcats announced on Monday that Fred Whitfield, a close associate of Michael Jordan's, will be named team president.

Whitfield once served as director of player personnel for the Washington Wizards when Jordan ran the overall basketball operation. Jordan invested in the Bobcats this spring and now has oversight authority over the team's basketball operation.

Ed Tapscott resigned as team president in May, rather than be demoted to a position of less authority.

Morrison Signs Contract With Charlotte

Adam Morrison signed with the Charlotte Bobcats on Thursday.

"We are pleased to sign Adam and to get him on the basketball court with our team," said Bernie Bickerstaff, the team's coach and general manager. "He is a quality young man and a fine talent who we are excited to have as part of our organization. We have already seen how his skills will benefit our team and how competitive he is on the court."

Morrison will be paid about $3 million in the first year of the deal and nearly $3.25 million in the second year

Sean May Is Ready To Return

After suffering a season-ending right knee injury at the end of last season, Sean May is ready to return to action with the Charlotte Bobcats summer league squad.

?I haven?t played in so long, and [the summer league] is a great opportunity to stay in shape midway through the summer,? May said. ?This is a great way to push yourself and strive for goals.?

May was selected with the Charlotte Bobcats' 13th pick in last year's NBA draft and was selected alongside college teammate Ray Felton (the fifth pick).
