Dunlap Wants To See Bobcats Re-Sign McRoberts

Mar 29, 2013 7:27 PM

Charlotte Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap has indicated that he'd like to see the team re-sign Josh McRoberts this summer.

McRoberts will become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

The Bobcats acquired McRoberts from the Orlando Magic in what seemed to be a minor deal last month, but he has become a starter for Charlotte.

"When he walked in the door you could see his high (basketball) IQ," Dunlap said. "His ability to pass has been contagious."

Mar 21, 2013 6:07 PM

The Charlotte Bobcats are on pace to finish with the NBA’s worst record for the second straight year and have qualified for the playoffs just once in their 9-year history.

Michael Jordan told season-ticket holders that he anticipates off-season change and that everyone in the organization – basketball and business side – will be evaluated come spring.

Jordan was non-committal in his assessment of Mike Dunlap, who is the Bobcats’ fourth head coach since the 2007-08 season.

Shaw Turned Down Offer To Coach Bobcats, Still Waiting For Right Opportunity

Mar 15, 2013 11:26 AM

Brian Shaw turned down an offer to coach the Charlotte Bobcats, who currently hold the NBA’s worst record.

"I want to be in a situation where I have a chance," Shaw said. "Usually when you come into your first head coaching job, you don't get to dictate what the situation is going to be. But you want a chance and an organization that has a game plan going forward that's sustainable and where you have some pieces of value where you can put things together and get on the fast track."

Shaw also interviewed for vacant head coaching positions during the offseason with the Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic.

"I'm perceived as just a triangle guy," Shaw said. "I have conversations with Phil [Jackson] and I said, 'I thought working for you and playing for you would be my biggest asset going into interviews. Actually it's been my biggest liability.'

"We've laughed about it. He's said to me on more than one occasion, 'It's best for you to distance yourself from me and our system.' "

Shaw has spent the past two seasons as the Indiana Pacers' associate coach, partly serving as a mentor for head coach Frank Vogel.

"When he gets an opportunity," Vogel said, "he's going to be a coach of the year candidate every single year."

Bobcats Leave Tyrus Thomas In Charlotte On Four-Game Road Trip

Mar 5, 2013 12:21 PM

The Charlotte Bobcats left Tyrus Thomas home during their four-game road trip to the West Coast.

Rod Higgins said on Monday that the front office felt Thomas’ time would be better spent in Charlotte, doing some physical rehabilitation and individual on-court work, rather than on the road with his team.

Thomas has recently fallen completely out of the Bobcats' rotation.

Thomas is signed through the 2015 season.
