Bulls Won't Make Dramatic Changes To Roster

Nov 26, 2013 7:36 PM

The Chicago Bulls do not plan on making any dramatic changes to their roster following Derrick Rose's season-ending knee injury.

"With this type of injury, he should come back 100 percent," general manager Gar Forman said. "With the previous [ACL] injury, that leg is strong and we saw the explosiveness and reactivity and speed, and then it was just [a matter of] getting into rhythm.

"Though this is a severe injury, it's not as severe as the other. He'll get over it and be able to get his career back to the highest level."

Forman said it is premature to talk about potential trades or about rebuilding.

"This just happened. It's too early to start to go down that road," Forman said. "From an organizational standpoint, our front office, not just this year but every year, we always evaluate our team, where we're at, how we can get better. ...

"We're not going to make rash decisions. We feel we have a bright future ahead and we're positioned well. We have good players in their 20s, Derrick is going to come back, we're positioned well with draft picks into the future and we have some level of flexibility which we haven't had under this new CBA."

Forman believes the Bulls can still build around Rose despite his injury issues.

"Yeah, he's obviously a big, big part of our future," he said. "This was a freak injury. According to doctors, it had nothing to do with over-compensating or any type weakness or any type of fatigue. It was just a freak injury."

Derrick Rose To Undergo Surgery On Monday

Nov 24, 2013 4:18 PM

Derrick Rose will undergo surgery on Monday to repair the torn meniscus in his right knee in Chicago.

The team will have a better timetable for his return following the surgery.

“The big part is they won’t know until they get in,’’ Tom Thibodeau said. “We’re hoping for the best. We of course feel very badly for Derrick. I talked to him at length last night. He’s in good spirits, about as well as can be expected under the circumstances. And he’s already thinking about his rehab.

“Typical Derrick, he’s concerned about his team, his teammates. That being said, we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We’re the Chicago Bulls. We have one goal and that’s to win. I believe we have the personnel in that locker room to get it done.’’

Rose could miss the rest of the season.

Bulls Might Now Be More Likely To Trade Luol Deng

Nov 23, 2013 11:17 PM

With Derrick Rose set for knee surgery and potentially missing the remainder of the season, the Chicago Bulls could be more inclined to trade Luol Deng.

The Bulls and Deng tabled extension talks in September and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Despite the protestations from Tom Thibodeau, the Bulls appear prepared to let Deng walk if he were to remain with the club past the deadline. The Bulls are anticipating an extension for Jimmy Butler.

Rose's Injury Could Accelerate Strain Between Thibodeau, Management

Nov 23, 2013 10:45 PM

Several players on the Chicago Bulls have allied with Tom Thibodeau "in his never-ending battle with the front office," according to reporting from Adrian Wojnarowski.

Derrick Rose and Luol Deng are said to also carry resentments with management.

The Bulls appear willing to lose Deng in free agency, choosing Jimmy Butler's impending extension.

Those close to Thibodeau wonder if his strained partnership with "his nemesis", Gar Forman, could end his tenure before his remaining two-plus seasons on his contract are up now that Rose will begin another rehab stint.
