Lakers, Bulls, Rockets, Celtics, Thunder Lead NBA In 14-15 Profits

Jun 30, 2014 12:47 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers are projected to make $100.1 million in profit for the 13-14 NBA season, comfortably the best in the NBA.

The Chicago Bulls are second at $61 million, followed by the Houston Rockets ($40.7 million), Boston Celtics ($33.1 million) and Oklahoma City Thunder ($29 million).

The Lakers have a huge profit despite contributing a league-high $49 million to revenue-sharing.

The New York Knicks are expected to take a net loss of $3.5 million due to $27 million in revenue-sharing contribution and paying a large luxury tax bill.

The San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in net profits.

The Brooklyn Nets will post a loss of $144 million for the season.

Derrick Rose Uncertain About Participating With USA This Summer

Jun 29, 2014 10:51 PM

Derrick Rose is uncertain if he will participate in USA Basketball's training camp starting July 28 in Las Vegas.

"I still don't know yet," Rose told Yahoo Sports at the Drew Gooden Foundation Basketball Camp on Sunday. "If I'm feeling right and the time is [right], for sure I will go out there. My body is responding good, but you never know.

"Right now, I haven't really thought about that. I am just worrying about just trying to get back every day and I'm really taking rehab one day at a time instead of trying to think about competing."

The USA are loaded at point guard with Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving and Stephen Curry on the 14-16 28-man roster.

Rose Won't Recruit Carmelo But Loves His Game

Jun 29, 2014 10:51 PM

Derrick Rose won't recruit Carmelo Anthony or any other free agent, though he likes Anthony's game and believes they would mesh well together with the Chicago Bulls.

Rose said recruiting free agents is "not his job."

"My thing is if they want to come, they can come," Rose said.

Rose expects to be ready for the season opener.

"I love Melo's game," Rose said. "He's a great player. Takes the game serious. He's consistent. He shoots the ball great. I love his heart.

"I can play with anybody, no matter who it is. I believe I can play with anyone if they step on the court with me."

Carmelo To Meet With Bulls At Midnight Tuesday; Rockets, Mavs on Wednesday

Jun 29, 2014 9:41 PM

Carmelo Anthony plans to meet with the Chicago Bulls at 12:01 AM on Tuesday, according to sources.

Anthony is in the process of arranging a trip to Chicago to meet with the Bulls, then travel to Texas for Wednesday meetings with both the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks.

Anthony is likely to meet with the Rockets first on Wednesday, followed by the Mavericks.

With an offseason home in the area, Anthony is expected to meet with the Los Angeles Lakers face-to-face next week.

The New York Knicks are increasingly optimistic, however, about re-signing Anthony.

Lakers, Bulls, Mavericks, Timberwolves Have Secondary Interest In Chandler Parsons

Jun 29, 2014 12:58 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves have secondary interest in Chandler Parsons, according to a source.

The Lakers, Bulls and Mavericks are expected to pursue free agents such as Carmelo Anthony or LeBron James and could turn their attention toward Parsons.

The Rockets made Parsons a restricted free agent by declining the team option on his contract for next season and the team remains interested in keeping him.

"When I got drafted in the second round, I signed the four-year deal and everyone has to go through their rookie scale," Parsons said. "It was all part of the process. I obviously thought I deserved more. But I never was bitter or jealous of anyone making more than me. I was just fortunate enough to do this for a living.

"I feel like I'm in a win-win situation because it's happening a year early. I think a lot of teams could be interested. With the way I play and my versatility, I feel I can pretty much help any team."

Carmelo To Make Decision After Visits With Knicks, Bulls, Lakers, Rockets, Mavs

Jun 27, 2014 1:37 PM

Carmelo Anthony plans on making his decision in the second week of July after taking several visits in free agency.

Anthony is expected to meet with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. A source made no mention of meeting with the Miami Heat.

The source said that Anthony loves New York and playing for the Knicks, but there are questions surrounding the future of the franchise.

Phil Jackson was evasive when asked by reporters Thursday night if he would be willing to complete a sign-and-trade with Anthony if he opts to go elsewhere. The source added that the Knicks and Anthony have had no discussions about the possibility of a sign-and-trade.

Carmelo Anthony's Camp Aware Derrick Rose Would Welcome Him On Bulls

Jun 27, 2014 1:44 AM

Derrick Rose is opposed to publicly recruiting players to the Chicago Bulls but would welcome improvements to the team.

Sources close to Rose said the camp of Carmelo Anthony is aware that Rose would welcome the addition of the elite scorer.

The reports that Rose preferred Kevin Love over Anthony are "fiction," according to the same sources. Rose is in favor of any improvements for the Bulls' roster.

The Bulls are expected to be among several teams pursuing Anthony in free agency.

Carmelo Not Expected To Consider Heat, Lakers

Jun 26, 2014 2:11 AM

Carmelo Anthony will visit the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls once free agency begins on July 1.

"Those three teams plus the Knicks seem to be the ones he's going to consider," one source said.

There does not appear to be a frontrunner at this point for Anthony.

Anthony is not expected to meet formally with the Los Angeles Lakers, but he's being recruited by Kobe Bryant. The two spoke by telephone earlier this week and Bryant told ESPN via text message that he plans to meet with Anthony as well.

The Miami Heat do not appear to be a viable option for Anthony. There had been reports about Anthony joining the Heat with the proposed Big 4 taking significant pay reductions, but sources said there has been no talk about that possibility from his camp.

Boeheim Has Talked To Thibodeau About Carmelo, Believes In Their Potential Partnership

Jun 24, 2014 4:35 PM

Jim Boeheim has talked to Tom Thibodeau about Carmelo Anthony and believes in their ability to create a successful partnership with the Chicago Bulls.

“I’ve talked to Tom about Melo, his name has come up,’’ Boeheim said on Tuesday. “I think Tom is very excited about the possibility of getting Carmelo. He likes him. He likes how he plays. He feels he’s coachable. I think Tom Thibodeau is one of the better coaches in the NBA. Carmelo would be happy playing for him. It would be a good fit – the coach-player relationship.’’

Boeheim made it clear that he hopes Anthony decides to play where he can win.

“I’d like to see him be where he can win, honestly,’’ Boeheim said. “He’s not going to get his due and credit the way the game is set up. You’re viewed almost as a failure if you don’t win championships. So I’d like to see him get where he can win. I’d like for it to be in New York but I’d like to see where he can win. I believe he wants to be where he can win.

“I think Melo loves New York. He has had a good run there but he played – I watched 60 games – I thought he played great last year. But the bottom line when they lose, he’s going to get blamed.’’
