Joakim Noah: I Never Said I Want To Come Off Bench

Oct 30, 2015 3:13 PM

Joakim Noah is accepting a role coming off the bench for the Chicago Bulls, but he said that he didn't ask for it.

“I never said I want to come off the bench,” Noah said following Friday’s morning shootaround. “I said I’ll do what’s best for the team.”

Fred Hoiberg told Zach Lowe that Noah approached him about coming off the bench.

“He said, basically, ‘I’ve always played well with Taj,’” Hoiberg said to Grantland.com. “He said he thought Niko (Mirotic) and Pau (Gasol) played very well together, so let’s go that route.”

Noah is in a contract season.

“The truth is I think I’m more effective playing (center) than (power forward). And I think Pau is the same,” Noah said. “And we have two very good (power forwards). So this makes more sense.”

Joakim Noah Started Conversation On Coming Off Bench

Oct 29, 2015 1:40 PM

Joakim Noah initiated the conversation with Fred Hoiberg that led to him coming off the bench in the final season of his contract with the Chicago Bulls.

"Jo actually came to me and talked to me about that," said Hoiberg. "He said, basically, 'I’ve always played well with Taj.' He said he thought Niko and Pau played very well together, so let’s go that route. It was actually Jo that started the whole conversation. He came to me. That says a lot about him."

Hoiberg was asked if was leaning toward starting Nikola Mirotic and Pau Gasol while Noah and Taj Gibson come off the bench.

I had thought a lot about a lot of different lineups. I hadn’t come to any type of conclusion. But it was great of Jo to just come and have that conversation."

Derrick Rose Playing With Functionality In Just One Eye

Oct 28, 2015 10:54 AM

Derrick Rose is dealing with blurred vision as he continues his recovery from a fractured left orbital bone.

Rose hasn't been able to simply blink the eye back into focus.

"I wish it was a blink, but it's all the time," said Rose, who played 32 minutes and scored 18 points. "Like right now, I see two of you."

Rose had surgery Sept. 30 and has been wearing a protective mask the past few weeks.

Rose said he was keeping only his right eye open when on the court. But photos of game action show both eyes clearly open, with Rose's left eye lid slightly swollen.

"When I'm out there playing, I'm only using one of my eyes," Rose said. "I close my left eye whenever I'm out there. So I just got used to it from practice."

Joakim Noah Likely To Start Season Coming Off Bench

Oct 20, 2015 9:33 PM

The Chicago Bulls are leaning towards starting Nikola Mirotic and Pau Gasol with Joakim Noah coming off the bench.

Noah is fully healthy and in a contract season.

"Whatever is best for the team. It's not about me right now. It's about this team," Noah said. "We have to figure out ways to get better. And we will."

"He didn't fight it one bit," Fred Hoiberg said. "I think he's excited to play with Taj (Gibson) and the chemistry those two have together."

Noah has started 463 of 543 career NBA games.

"We want to throw (Gasol and Mirotic) out there together and I want to see Jo and Taj together," Hoiberg said. "You'll see mix-and-match. We want to get Bobby (Portis) some minutes as well with some different combinations. So we'll see how it all plays out."

Derrick Rose Rejoins Bulls, Not Cleared Yet For Activity

Oct 12, 2015 1:23 PM

Derrick Rose rejoined the Chicago Bulls for the first time since fracturing his left orbital on Sept. 29th, but he hasn't been cleared to activity.

Rose was initially on a two-week timetable, but the swelling didn't dissipate as quickly as envisioned.

The Bulls have yet to rule Rose out for the Oct. 27 regular season opener against the Cavaliers.

"He still has some blurred vision in that eye. It’s still very swollen," Fred Hoiberg said. "But he’s definitely making progress from when I saw him a week ago."
