Cavaliers Trade Wesley For Cedric Simmons

Sep 29, 2007 11:10 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired forward Cedric Simmons from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for guard David Wesley, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today.

Simmons, 21, was selected in the first round (15th overall pick) of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Hornets.  In 43 games (four starts) during the 2006-07 season, he averaged 2.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game.

?Cedric is a young, talented player,? said Ferry.  ?We look forward to participating in his continued development here in Cleveland.?

Simmons tied career highs in both points (10) and rebounds (9) versus Denver on Dec. 29, 2006. Wesley, who signed with the Cavs as a free agent on September 5, 2006, played in 35 games (five starts) for the Cavs, posting averages of 2.1 points and 1.1 assists in 10.1 minutes per game.

Pavlovic Probably Won't Be At Camp

Sep 29, 2007 9:58 AM

Don't call it a holdout, but when the Cavs open training camp Monday, the signs point to Sasha Pavlovic not being there.

The Cavs, meanwhile, appear to be preparing to move on by making free-agent moves and engaging in their most heated trade talks since July.

The sides have been far apart on a long-term deal for months. Now it appears the fallback option, a one-year so-called ''qualifying offer'' of $2.8 million, no longer seems to be an option.

Marc Cornstein, Pavlovic's agent, said Friday that Pavlovic is planning on letting the offer expire Monday. Pavlovic is in Europe with no plans to travel to Cleveland this weekend.

Ex-Hornet Traylor Gets Probation In Tax-Fraud Case

Sep 28, 2007 4:39 PM

A federal judge sentenced Robert "Tractor" Traylor to three years of probation Friday after the former NBA player and Michigan star admitted to preparing a false tax return that hid the assets of a convicted drug dealer.

Traylor, 30, pleaded guilty in January to a charge of aiding and assisting in the preparation of a false tax return. He could have been sentenced to up to 14 months in federal prison.

Traylor, whose NBA teams included New Orleans and who now plays professionally in Puerto Rico, will serve the first three months of his probation in a halfway house. He will be electronically monitored during the remaining 33 months. His sentence will be served in the offseason, the court said.

Cleveland Expected To Sign Devin Brown

Sep 28, 2007 8:11 AM

A league source says the Cleveland Cavaliers will soon announce the signing of guard/forward Devin Brown to a contract.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder played 58 games with the New Orleans Hornets last year and started 49. He averaged a career-high 11.6 points to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Brown, who started his career in San Antonio, shot 42 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from the 3-point line. With training camp starting on Monday, Brown would be the first free agent the Cavs have signed.

Pavlovic Threatens To Play In Europe

Sep 22, 2007 9:02 AM

With negotiations for a new contract with the Cavaliers at a stalemate for months and training camp just about a week away, Sasha Pavlovic has grown tired of the process. In an interview with the Sporting News on Friday, agent Marc Cornstein said Pavlovic may consider playing in Europe next season if he can't come to terms on a long-term contract with the Cavs.

Cornstein, who said the sides were ''very far apart'' on contract terms, said he is not in talks with any European team but may consider that option. Because Pavlovic is a restricted free agent, if he cannot get another team to sign him to an offer sheet, or come to a long-term agreement with the Cavs, he would be required to take a one-year qualifying offer of $2.8 million.

Pavlovic, who is from Montenegro, has never played in Europe's top pro leagues. Even if he left for Europe, he would be a Cavs restricted free agent if he wanted to come back to the NBA. Also, European teams have started training camps, and most rosters are filled.
