George Karl Interested In Becoming President Of Cavaliers

Apr 25, 2014 8:02 PM

George Karl is interested in becoming president of the Cleveland Cavaliers, should Dan Gilbert be looking for a prominent NBA veteran in a role similar to those recently filled by Phil Jackson and Flip Saunders.

"Being a leader, running a team and organizing a group with the common goal of winning a championship would be the ultimate challenge in my career,'' Karl said via email from Germany, where son Coby is playing.

David Griffin replaced Chris Grant as general manager of the Cavaliers on Feb. 6.

Karl's first NBA head coaching job was with the Cavaliers in 84-85.

David Griffin Wants To Remain GM Of Cavs But Won't Campaign For Job

Apr 22, 2014 3:11 PM

David Griffin is one of the NBA's most well-regarded front office executives and he's been serving as interim general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers since the dismissal of Chris Grant.

“I feel no great sense of wonder,” Griffin said about his future with the club. “I feel very confident ownership and myself will be moving in the same direction. But I also don’t need to hear from them to know that I need to get better.

“I’m not going to campaign. I’m not running for mayor. Our results are totally unacceptable. I understand what we need to do to get better. And if Dan and his ownership group are of that mindset, we’re going to get better together.”

Kyrie Irving Doesn't Have 'Definitive Answer' On Extension

Apr 17, 2014 2:03 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to make a maximum five-year contract extension offer to Kyrie Irving this offseason.

"I've been a part of this and I want to continue to be a part of this," he said. "We're making strides in the right direction, especially in this organization. I want to be part of something special, and I want to be part of something special in Cleveland.

"I don't have a definitive answer to that right now, but it'll be something special. I can guarantee that."

Irving was the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

"It's a big deal for me and my family if they do offer that. It would be exciting, and I'll make the best decision for me and my family. That's what it's going to boil down to for myself."

Luol Deng has been voted the 2013-14 winner of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award.

"What I'm most proud of is that my family can look back after my career is over and realize that I was able to make a difference on and off the basketball court. Mike Brown has touted the versatility of Hawes and the spacing he provides for Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters.

Irving, Waiters Insist No Issues Exist Between Them

Apr 7, 2014 3:47 PM

Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters addressed the media together on Monday amid reports of more disharmony between the Cleveland Cavaliers' teammates.

Irving and Josh Gordon of the Cleveland Browns exchanged barbs in the media. Gordon is Waiters' neighbor.

"Honestly, off the court and on the court, we're the best of friends," said Irving. "So when we come on the court, we're just going to play basketball like we've been doing the past few games and our focus is on winning right now.''

"On behalf of [Irving], myself, I just think we've been in so much media this year, and it's not fair to either of us," said Waiters.

"I just think, man, throughout this whole year with us two not liking each other, it's total BS. We've been friends before we even made the NBA, before any of this. I just think y'all saying we don't like playing with one another …

"Yeah, we still need to learn certain things. But I think at the end of the day, we're genuinely friends. I love him as a friend, teammate, everything. I just want everybody to know that. I don't hate this guy. I'm pretty sure he don't hate me. I know he don't hate me. I hope he don't hate me. Rome wasn't built in one day. We're still young. We're still planning to stay together. We're still working. As long as we've got great communication down, it's fine.''
