LeBron James Calls For Clarity To Cavs' Lineup Patterns

Dec 26, 2015 1:36 AM

LeBron James made a call for perhaps some more clarity in David Blatt's lineup patterns.

"It's going to take some time to get back into rhythm, and all of us, not just the players, but everyone, to get back in rhythm," James said.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are just now working Kyrie Irving back from injury.

"For us to have a full unit, we've got to practice, we've got to play some games where we know what we want to do, what lineups we want to play out there," James said.

"It's an adjustment period, it's not just going to happen – you plug a guy in there, plug two guys in there and it automatically happens," he continued. "It's going to be an adjustment period, but we'll be fine. We'll be fine toward February and March."

The Cavaliers were out of rhythm at times on offense in their loss to the Warriors.

"For the first time, for a long period of time we had some different lineups out there," James explained, talking about the woes on offense. "And against a championship team like this, it's kind of hard to do that on the fly. We're not making no excuses, we still got to be a lot better, still got to move the ball, got to share the ball, get it moving from side to side, but offensively we were all out of rhythm.

"You credit to their defense, for sure, and then the lack of detail."

Kyrie Irving To Make Season Debut Sunday Against 76ers

Dec 19, 2015 4:04 PM

Kyrie Irving will make his season debut on Sunday at home against the Philadelphia 76ers.

"I'm pretty F'ing excited," Irving said Saturday. "There were a few things I had to clear, but there was no rush on it. ... I've been ready to play, but biomechanically we just wanted to make sure everything was good so I wouldn't put myself at risk."

The Cleveland Cavaliers will monitor Irving's minutes, but he's expected to start.

Irving has been out since he fractured his left kneecap during Game 1 of the NBA Finals in June.

Kyrie Irving Not Making Debut On Thursday

Dec 16, 2015 11:50 AM

According to a report from ESPN, Kyrie Irving planned to make his 15-16 season debut on Thursday at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Irving has since denied the report on Twitter.

"Sorry to dwindle the news, but I won't be returning tmrw. It was wrongfully reported. When I do come back you'll hear it directly from me."

Irving has been out for the first 23 games due to his surgery in June to repair a fractured left kneecap suffered in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Irving's final hurdle before the team approves of his intention to play will involve a series of physical tests to measure his body's strength and responsiveness.

Irving was cleared to full contact more than a week ago and has been through a handful of practices without any issues.

Kevin Love Didn't Take Any Calls From Other Teams In Free Agency

Dec 14, 2015 12:51 PM

Kevin Love was set on re-signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers as free agency began on July 1st, 2015.

"A lot of teams called, but I've never really even considered," Love said. "I've been saying it the whole time, that time when you become a free agent, there's something to be said for, 'Man, I can go wherever I want, live wherever I want, be close to my family if I want.' But this was a situation where the first year is always the hardest.

"I knew that we were going to be able to compete for a championship every single year. I had met with LeBron [James] directly after that, just picked his brain. Asked him what he thought about where we were going in the future. You know 12:01 a.m. on July 1 came around and [Cavaliers' General manager David] Griffin and I were on the phone and I signed on the ninth."

Love didn't grant other teams even a phone conversation.

"Truth be told, I didn't even talk them really," he said. "Teams have reached out to my agent, but as far as getting on the phone with anybody, the only person I got on the phone with was Griff right when he called me at 12:01. That's what people don't understand that when I say that it was really done, it was really done."

Love said there wasn't another situation where he could have as high of a chance of winning as Cleveland.

"The thought had crossed my mind, but there was no situation that was going to allow me to win basketball games like this one, " Love said. "Yeah, I could have gone places and averaged 30 or 25 [points] and 15 [rebounds] or whatever it might have been, but coming here I would still be able to play my game. I knew in season two things would be better. And I think a lot can be said for how well this team gets along and how close we all are."

LeBron James: Reduced Minutes 'Ain't Me'

Dec 10, 2015 3:03 PM

LeBron James is averaging 37.1 minutes per game through 21 games this season, a full minute more than he averaged in 14-15.

The idea was for James to drop that number even lower to perhaps 34 minutes per game.

"I'm not a 31, 32 minute guy. That's just not, that ain't me," James said after practice on Thursday.

The Cleveland Cavaliers haven't been healthy all season with injuries to Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert.

"I'm playing at a high level," James said. I'm shooting the ball extremely well and I'm not hurting my team when I'm on the floor. If I'm hurting my team, then I should be sitting down. But I feel good.

"I'm always kind of like in the middle," he continued. I'm not a guy who likes to sit. If we take care of business and we go out and we're able to beat up on a team and I can sit in the fourth, then I can. If not, then I need to play. If I'm in the lineup then I need to be out on the floor. And I'm not saying I have to be out there 48 minutes or 40 minutes. But I'm going to make an impact."

LeBron James Signs Lifetime Contract With Nike

Dec 7, 2015 5:07 PM

LeBron James has signed a lifetime contract with Nike believed to be the largest single-athlete guarantee in company history.

"We can confirm that we have agreed to a lifetime relationship with LeBron that provides significant value to our business, brand and shareholders," Nike said in a statement. "We have already built a strong LeBron business over the past 12 years, and we see the potential for this to continue to grow throughout his playing career and beyond."

The deal is believed to easily surpass Kevin Durant's 10-year, $300 million deal with Nike signed last summer.

"LeBron and I have been in love and obsessed with Nike since we were kids," Maverick Carter, James' business partner, said Monday. "Having built a totally innovative global business with them has truly been a dream come true. We are so excited to be taking the business to an entirely new level. For LeBron, he's thrilled to know he's a Nike guy for life."

Nike has never announced a lifetime deal before.

LeBron James Not 'Thrilled' With Sitting Out

Dec 6, 2015 5:49 PM

LeBron James was held out of the Cleveland Cavaliers' game on Saturday against the Miami Heat by David Blatt.

The Cavaliers played an overtime game the night before at the New Orleans Pelicans and James played 44 minutes.

James had said earlier in the season that he wanted to play all 82 games.

"We had hoped to look at days of rest we could find that perhaps were not game-related," Blatt said. "Again, last night was a particular situation, an overtime game, played 44 minutes, played his heart out, very, very short turnaround. Tough, tough trip. Game in less than 24 hours.

"Those are the factors that came into play, more so than any plan up front."

James' is indeed healthy, a source said, and "that's why he wasn't thrilled with the concept" of sitting out.

LeBron Okay With Ben Simmons' Comparisons

Dec 5, 2015 4:01 PM

Ben Simmons has been compared to LeBron James with his abilities as a passer despite having the height of a forward.

James doesn't mind the comparison.

"I don't mind it," James said Friday. "Someone's going to be compared to someone all the time, and I don't mind him being compared to me. People not only recognizing what he does on the floor, but he's a great kid, too. He has a great family, great support system, and that's why he's able to do what he [does] on the floor."

"He's one of the best players in the world that's played the game," Simmons said in an interview with ESPN. "I just try to take little parts of his game and put it into mine. His size is one of the things that I look at. I'm 6-10, and he's right at 6-8 or 6-9, and I just try and fit what he does into my game."
