Cavs Confident LeBron James Won't Leave Again

Mar 29, 2016 12:30 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are confident LeBron James won't leave the franchise again this offseason, but they do acknowledge there is at least a slight possibility of that occurring depending on how they go out in the playoffs.

James returned to the Cavaliers in 2014 and they reached The Finals in his first year.

But James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love have struggled to maximize their collective talents.

James maintains the clout within the franchise to order a significant shake-up of their roster.

Celtics Low-Balled Cavs On Kevin Love Offer At Deadline

Mar 29, 2016 11:10 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics discussed a Kevin Love trade at the deadline, but talks died when Danny Ainge only offered a low-ball package David Griffin wouldn't consider.

The Cavaliers could revisit a trade of Love in the offseason if they don't win the title.

The Celtics would be the favorites as they have enough assets to make an attractive offer for Love without gutting their team.

LeBron James' Meeting With Tyronn Lue Triggered Change In Approach

Mar 25, 2016 11:27 AM

LeBron James says a conversation with Tyronn Lue following a loss at the Miami Heat last week made him realize how he must approach the final stage of the regular season as his team prepares for the playoffs.

"I just need to do more," James said Thursday after a 104-95 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. "Just need to do more, and I have been able to do that, except for tonight, for the most part."

Asked to elaborate on what "more" meant, James replied: "It's everything."

Lue met with James after he saw him fraternizing with Dwyane Wade at halftime.

"I just told him we can't have that, being down like we were and him being the leader," Lue told Cleveland.com. "Just me being a competitor, I didn't like it. We had a long talk about it. It was good. He understood, he apologized, and he's been great."

Dwyane Wade Not Interested In Superteam At This Point

Mar 24, 2016 12:20 PM

LeBron James is unsure if any NBA owner would go for the idea of him teaming up with Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul due to how much power would be conceded to the players.

Wade wants not part of it for now.

"Don't put me in it," Wade said. "I ain't jumping in that. Don't put me in that right now. I'm not answering that question about what we talked about."

Anthony waited to make his decision until James made his because he thought it would be possible to play together.

Anthony was asked about forming a superteam.

"I think by that time [in your career], you want to go somewhere warm," Anthony said. "By that time. That's later. That would be later -- retirement. ... I'm just adding fuel to the fire."

Anthony said his loyalty remains to the New York Knicks.

"I came here for a reason, which was to win in New York," Anthony said. "Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case thus far, but I feel like I have unfinished business to take care of. And I feel like, I don't know, maybe it's just me, if I just get up and run away from something that I started, that I feel a part of and that's not done yet, then I think I would carry that burden on my shoulders. That's just me as an individual."

Tyronn Lue, David Griffin Meet Separately With LeBron James

Mar 24, 2016 11:24 AM

Both Tyronn Lue and David Griffin have had conversations with LeBron James over the past few days regarding separate items.

Lue spoke with James after the Cleveland Cavaliers' 122-101 loss to the Miami Heat. James was noticeably chatting with Dwyane Wade instead of warming up with the Cavs during halftime. Lue said James apologized to him and the discussion was positive and productive.

Griffin spoke with James on Wednesday in a more general way, but it was triggered by his comments that he would like to play on the same team as Carmelo Anthony, Wade and Chris Paul for a "year or two" before retiring.

James waned Lue to make sure he held him accountable, which is something David Blatt didn't to during his tenure as head coach.

James says his behavior, such as unfollowing the Cavaliers from social media, is his way of dialing in as he usually does during the playoffs.

LeBron James Would Like To Team Up With Carmelo, CP3, Wade Before Retiring

Mar 23, 2016 8:44 PM

LeBron James admitted he would love to play on an NBA team alongside Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade at the same time before his career is over.

James played four seasons with Wade and Chris Bosh as members of the Miami Heat.

"I really hope that, before our career is over, we can all play together," James said. "At least one, maybe one or two seasons—me, Melo, D-Wade, CP—we can get a year in. I would actually take a pay cut to do that."

James has been on a series of one-plus-one contracts with the Cavaliers. Wade will also be a free agent this offseason, while Paul will be eligible in 2017 with an early termination option and Anthony has an early termination option in 2018.

"It would be pretty cool," James said. "I've definitely had thoughts about it."

LeBron James Says He's Going Into Playoff Mode Early

Mar 22, 2016 3:42 PM

LeBron James has shifted into playoff mode, explaining his recent purge on Twitter that eliminated the Cleveland Cavaliers from the accounts he's following.

"I have (changed his focus), a little bit sooner than normal, but you know I understand that it's right around the corner and I want to start mentally preparing myself for the distance," James said after the Cavs' practice.

James unfollowed the Cavs' Twitter account Monday and then declined to explain why.

James has been quieter than usual in recent days.

"I'm just being a little more sharper minded as of late, just gearing toward it," James said. "Understanding that it's right around the corner and it's going to be very, very challenging."

Tyronn Lue Now Sees Importance Of Getting Details Right In Coaching

Mar 21, 2016 12:37 PM

With a few weeks in as a head coach after multiple years as an assistant coach, Tyronn Lue has a better appreciation of why the details are so important.

"When I was a player for Doc [Rivers], I never used to understand why he got mad at the little things," Lue said. "Now I see why coaches get mad about little, small things. It happens a lot. Things I want to do, things I want [to] implement, it's been tough to do it midway through the season."

Lue has shifted his focus from the Cavaliers' defense to the offense with Mike Longabardi acting as defensive coordinator.

The Cavaliers were fifth in defensive rating when Lue was in charge of the defense before David Blatt was fired.

Cavs Puzzled By Kyrie Irving's 28 Shot, 1 Assist Game

Mar 17, 2016 2:50 PM

Kyrie Irving scored 33 points on 12-for-28 shooting in Wednesday's win in which LeBron James didn't play.

Tyronn Lue wanted Irving to be aggressive with James out of the lineup, but a few Cleveland Cavaliers' teammates were puzzled by how he recorded just one assist in 39 minutes.

During one possession in the second quarter, Irving dribbled for 24 seconds and went nowhere before settling for a tough mid-range jumper.

Irving and Kevin Love combined for 176 touches but just two assists.
