Tyronn Lue Hasn't Signed New Contract As Cavs' Coach

Apr 30, 2016 10:02 AM

Tyronn Lue continues to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers without having signed a new contract since he took over for David Blatt.

Lue was already the league's top-paid assistant coach when he was added to Blatt's staff in the summer of 2014 with a four-year deal worth a total of $6.5 million.

The Cavs and Lue's representatives came to a verbal agreement on a renegotiated deal that would pay him $3 million prorated for 2015-16 and $3 million next season, with a team option for a third year at $3.5 million with a buyout.

There were no standards or stipulations for the verbal agreement.

Lue fully expects to remain head coach of the Cavaliers next season no matter the result of these playoffs. Lue also has no interest in vacancies with the Houston Rockets, New York Knicks or Sacramento Kings. The Cavaliers would have to grant permission to another team for Lue to interview.

Lue's reasoning for delaying an official agreement was respect and deference to Blatt.

Cavs Finding Offensive Success With Kevin Love At Center

Apr 18, 2016 2:26 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers moved Kevin Love to center in their Game 1 but didn't play him like one.

Love had 28 points including 4-for-8 on three-pointers as Andre Drummond was forced to chase him on the perimeter.

Love, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving combined for 81 of the Cavaliers' 106 points.

Both Love and Irving were lost to injury during last year's playoffs.

"I looked at it as an important opportunity," Love said. "Between Kyrie and myself, we've had many conversations about our playoff run being cut short."

Stan Van Gundy Criticizes Refs' Treatment Of LeBron James

Apr 17, 2016 11:13 PM

While discussing the Detroit Pistons' composure during an interview with ESPN's Lisa Salters at the end of the first quarter of Sunday's 106-101 Game 1 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Stan Van Gundy directed frustration toward the officials for what he felt were missed calls that went LeBron James' way.

"A couple calls have upset our guys," Van Gundy told Salters. "They've got to understand, LeBron's LeBron. They're not going to call offensive fouls on him. He gets to do whatever he wants. They've got to understand that."

After the game, Van Gundy said the officiating was not the reason Detroit lost.

"Look, I thought it evened out really well," Van Gundy said. "But early on, I thought there were two pretty obvious offensive fouls down there on him. But it's two calls in an entire game after that. Look, the refereeing had nothing to do with tonight. They did a good job. It went both ways. I thought they did a really good job. It was decided by the players on the floor, as it should be."

LeBron James Was Told By Doctor At 11 He'd Only Grow To Be 6'3"

Apr 14, 2016 10:53 AM

LeBron James was told by a doctor when he was 11 that he would only grow to be 6'3".

The news crushed him as he already was dreaming of becoming a professional basketball player.

"When your idols are Michael Jordan and Penny Hardaway, you're like [expletive]," James said to cleveland.com in a one-on-one session. "You're looking on the back of basketball cards and it says M.J. 6-6, Penny Hardaway 6-7½, Grant Hill 6-8, you're like, 'I'm only going to be 6-3? Golly. My dreams are shattered.' That's how it made me feel."

James was approximately 5'7" at age 11. His growth spurt was just about to take off. He reached six feet in junior high. By the end of his freshman year, he was 6-3.

"I thought I was all done," he said, referencing the doctor's prognosis 20 years ago. But James was confident he would continue to grow.

"Nah, once I was that tall at that age, I felt pretty good about my chances."

James grew to become 6'8".

"I'll still be the same player, I'll just probably be shorter," James said to cleveland.com. "I'm not sure I'd still have that athleticism as far as how I jump, but as far as my intelligence, my basketball IQ, that wouldn't have changed at all."

James talked about all of the point guards in the 6'3-6'4 range who are super athletic.

"I don't know if you jump higher if you're shorter or not. You do have guys like [Russell] Westbrook, who is not 6'3". He's like 6'4", 6'5"," James said in a kidding tone while laughing. "And obviously D-Rose in his heyday, boy he was jumping out of the gym. But I would still be a very dominant player in this league just because of my basketball IQ and my drive."

Kevin Love Willing To Play For USA In Olympics If Invited

Kevin Love will accept an invitation to play for the United States in the 2016 Olympics should he receive one.

Love played for the USA in 2010 in the World Championships and the 2012 Olympics. Love was scheduled to be on the team for the 2014 FIBA World Cup but the limbo of his trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers led to his withdrawal.

Love's inside-outside game is well-suited for national team competition, but he has significant competition at his position.

LeBron Compares Chris Paul To Stockton While Watching 1997 WCF

Apr 14, 2016 10:53 AM

LeBron James was live-Tweeting watching Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals of 1997 between the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets.

The game was airing on NBATV while the Golden State Warriors were playing the San Antonio Spurs on TNT.

James gave praise to Chris Paul, who has been one of his closest friends throughout his career.

"A lot of people compare @CP3 to Isiah Thomas but I think he's similar to Stockton. They get everyone involved throughout the game.... rarely shoot the ball, but when they do they rarely miss. Leaders and of course feisty as h-e double hockey sticks!"

The comments about Paul and Stockton could be interpreted as a subtweet to Kyrie Irving.
