Howard's Return Could Energize Mavs

Mar 31, 2009 9:38 AM

Mavericks forward Josh Howard is expected to return from a lingering ankle injury on Tuesday night against the Timberwolves.

"He looked great," teammate Jason Terry said. "Even last week, he was good in our last hard practice. He looked confident.

"I know he felt a little bit of pain, but the biggest test will be tomorrow," Terry added, referring to Tuesday's game. "If he hits that first shot, I'll bet he won't feel a thing tomorrow."

Howard's injury is severe enough that he could have off-season surgery, but he feels good enough to help the team during their stretch run.

Mar 28, 2009 4:22 PM

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban used Twitter to question a noncall in the team's loss to the Nuggets on Friday night.

The incident occurred between Mavericks guard Antoine Wright and Nuggets swingman J.R. Smith.

"How do they not call a tech on JR Smith for coming off the bench to taunt our player on the ground?" Cuban wrote shortly after the game.

"Scary part of that play: Same crew chief from game in Denver where they missed call - last play of the game & 1st JRSmith/Wright issue," Cuban wrote in another post.

Mavs' Terry Modeled Game After Ricky Pierce

Mar 24, 2009 9:54 AM

Jason Terry, who could be this season's Sixth Man of the Year, modeled his game after Ricky Pierce as a boy in Seattle.  Pierce averaged 14.9 points per game over 16 seasons, primarily with the Bucks and Sonics.

"He said if you can shoot with the lights off," Terry said, "when the lights come on you'll be able to knock them down."

Terry is averaging 19.8 points off the bench, the most a player has in 19 years. The last player to average more was Pierce.

"I don't think there's any question he's going to win it," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle says of Terry's chances to win the award. "I don't know of anyone who is close to him in terms of what he's done.

"He's been great all year."

Mavs' George Might Need Knee Surgery

Mar 14, 2009 2:36 AM

Mavs' forward Devean George may require surgery on his right knee after cartilage damage was found, the Dallas Morning News is reporting.

George was injured Wednesday at Portland and the leg stiffened up quickly after he departed the game in the fourth quarter.

"It's tough,'' said Dirk Nowitzki. "It kind of looked like an awkward play. He had a little breakaway and the guy was just trying to foul him and I guess he came down awkward. It's obviously a little frustrating, but injuries are part of the game for every team. You can't complain about it.''
