Mavs Hoping Kidd Doesn't Think A Sure Title Team Is Out There

May 28, 2009 10:26 AM

Jason Kidd will find himself in a similar situation as Karl Malone when the longtime member of the Jazz became a free agent and sought a championship with the Lakers.

But there are no guarantees in sports.

"There's no clear-cut way to a title," Mavericks president Donnie Nelson said Wednesday.

"And I think Jason really likes being part of a process, to be part of building toward something."

Kidd remains the Mavericks' top priority this offseason.

Tests Show Nowitzki's Ex-Girl Friend Pregnant

May 27, 2009 9:47 AM

Medical records confirm that Crista Taylor, the woman arrested at Dirk Nowitzki's home earlier this month, is pregnant.

The Dallas Morning News reported on Tuesday night that Taylor was given a pregnancy test after she was booked on May 6 at Dallas County jail.

Taylor claims that the child is Nowitzki's, but the star's attorney is still skeptical.

"This is all new information to us. We have previously submitted written requests through her Beaumont attorney for an independent pregnancy test as well as authorization for release of medical records. We have yet to receive any response," attorney Robert Hart said in a statement.

"We would like to reiterate that, if her statements as to her pregnancy are true, Dirk will do whatever can be done to ensure the well-being of the child."

Cuban's Insider Trading Suit Heats Up

May 24, 2009 3:31 PM

Now that the Mavericks are out of the NBA playoffs, owner Mark Cuban is focused on the insider trading suit that was filed against him by the SEC.

The suit, which was filed last year, is scheduled to receive it's first hearing on Tuesday.

"The basis on which they're going after Cuban hasn't been tried before," said Peter Henning, a law professor at Wayne State University. "Whether the SEC is going to be able to stretch (its authority) that far certainly remains to be seen."

The SEC alleges that Cuban engaged in insider trading when he sold his shares in Mamma.com Inc., after receiving information that the company planned to sell additional shares through a private offering in 2004. Cuban was able to avoid more than $750,000 in losses by selling his shares, according to the SEC.

Taylor Reiterates Pregnancy Claim

May 23, 2009 9:43 AM

Cristal Taylor has reiterated a claim that she is pregnant with the child of Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki.

Nowitzki's attorney denied the claims on Friday.

"I'm willing to take a polygraph test on anything I state; can they do the same?" Taylor asked of Nowitzki and attorney Robert Hart. "This is getting outrageous. It's turning into such drama."

Taylor told the Dallas Morning News on Monday that Dallas County jail officials gave her a pregnancy test as part of a routine screening.

Strangely enough, Taylor altered her story on Friday. She said that officials asked about her last menstrual cycle. When she couldn't recall, they administered the test.

Attorney Doubts Dirk Is Father Of Taylor's Child

May 22, 2009 9:12 AM

Robert Hart, the attorney for Dirk Nowitzki, has voiced doubt about Cristal Taylor's claim that she is pregnant with the former MVP's child.

Hart said that in the "remote" chance Taylor's claim is true, Nowitzki will do everything possible to "ensure the health of the child," according to a statement released to ESPN.

Taylor claims that she didn't know she was pregnant until she was tested at Dallas County jail following her May 6 arrest at Nowitzki's home.

Hart is telling a different story.

"We have been told that she was not administered a pregnancy test [in Dallas County Jail]," he added in the statement.
