The Mavericks confirmed on Tuesday that they will workout free-agent Rashad McCants and allow him to play in Friday's preseason game against the Rockets.

Beaubois To Miss Start Of Season

Oct 19, 2010 7:52 AM

Mavericks point guard Rodrigue Beaubois will miss the start of the season as he recovers from left foot surgery.

Beaubois is still wearing a protective walking boot and Dallas has been careful not to assign a timetable to his return.

"We will continue to take a conservative approach and keep the long-term interests for Roddy in mind," president Donnie Nelson said.

Kidd Wouldn't Mind Reduced Workload

Oct 15, 2010 8:22 AM

Jason Kidd wouldn't mind a reduced workload as the 2010-11 season approaches.

"Oh yeah, I would love to have my minutes go down," Kidd said Thursday. "But they haven't. The big thing is to just be prepared. I just try to take care of my body."

Kidd admitted that limiting his minutes will be difficult as Dallas looks to contend for a championship.

"We have to [try to win every game]," Kidd said. "So you got to put out there the guys who can do that. If that means playing a few more minutes, then you have to go with it. It's about winning basketball games if you want to win a championship."

Carlisle fainted during Friday's practice and didn't join the Mavericks for their trip to Indian Wells, Calif. for a preseason game against the Suns this weekend.

"I was just a little dehydrated and got a little lightheaded," Carlisle said.

"According to a bunch of people who have contacted me the last three days, fainting happens more frequently than you think. Time to move on."

Beaubois Back In Walking Boot

Oct 11, 2010 5:11 PM

Mavericks guard Rodrigue Beaubois is back in a walking boot after feeling some soreness in his left foot over the weekend.

"It's just to make sure nothing happened," Beuabois said.

"It was kind of sore, so we just have to take it easy and see how it goes. I started to do more so for sure I need to take it slow because it's been a long time since I played. We just have to take it slow."

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle didn't call it a setback, but it's becoming clear that Beaubois won't play in the preseason.

"It's precautionary," Carlisle said. "He hasn't had any kind of major setback, to my knowledge. We've said all along we're going to make sure he's really right before we put him back out there. So we're going day to day with it.

"We've got to make sure things happen in the right sequence. He's doing really well. But we're not going to take any unnecessary risks. We're going to make sure that it's completely 100 percent healthy and that he's in fully perfect condition before putting him back on the court. That's where we're at. He's making progress and I expect him to continue doing that."

Magic, Mavericks Flirted With Trading For Arenas

Oct 9, 2010 10:14 AM

Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas has looked lost this preseason and has mentioned "moving on" while talking to the press.

Ken Berger of CBS Sports reports that the Magic and Mavericks flirted with the idea of trading for Arenas this summer.

The framework of a trade that would have sent Arenas to Orlando in exchange for Vince Carter was discussed, but the cost and length of the former's contract caused Magic general manager Otis Smith to pass on the deal.

Dallas also thought about pursuing Arenas, but nothing materialized.

Marion 'Cool' With Bench Role In Dallas

Oct 8, 2010 5:23 PM

Mavericks forward Shawn Marion would be fine if he came off the bench this season.

Dallas may bring Marion off the bench to make room in the starting lineup for young guard Rodrigue Beaubois.

Marion didn't start Thursday night, playing 22 minutes off the bench in the preseason win over the Bulls.

"It's an adjustment," Marion said. "It was interesting, but at the same time, it was cool. We've got to come in with energy and do what we've got to do to get the team back on track. We did that."

Marion has started all but 15 of his 820 career games.
