Terry Expecting Higher 4th Quarter Usage

Apr 29, 2012 11:06 PM

Jason Terry was shut down by Russell Westbrook in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks’ Game 1 loss to Oklahoma City.

Terry finished with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, but attempted just one shot in the final period.

“Doesn’t even matter,” Terry said. “I bet I get touches this next fourth quarter. I will. That’s all I can tell you. I can’t tell you other than that. And you know when I say it, it’s going to happen.”

Terry has been the Mavericks’ most consistent clutch-scorer outside of Dirk Nowitzki.

“We have to figure out different ways to get Jet in different positions to get the ball to be successful,” Jason Kidd said. “We expect to see that tomorrow. Hopefully we can get him in the right spot and hopefully he’s still hot. He had a great game, and it was our fault that we couldn’t get him the ball in that fourth quarter.”

Williams To Make Decisions Before Olympics

Apr 27, 2012 11:00 PM

The Nets enter an offseason with the all-important question of whether Deron Williams will re-sign with the franchise as a free agent.

Williams will make his decision before late July when the Olympics' activities begin.

"I don't want to play in the Olympics without a contract," said Williams.

Williams is also expected to be pursued by the Mavericks. Williams was coy when asked about their potential interest this summer.

"I don't know why everybody just throws Dallas out there like they've heard something from me," he said. "I don't know."

Williams remains interested in making the move with the Nets to Brooklyn.

"Yeah, definitely, it would be great to be a part of that first game, that first team there," Williams said, "kind of start our own legacy in Brooklyn. So that's definitely enticing. That's definitely something I think about on a regular basis."

Apr 15, 2012 11:42 AM

Jason Terry could become a free agent this summer and doesn’t deny the future has weighed on his mind at points throughout the season.

"I go out there every day with that on my mind," Terry said. "It's reality. I could possibly not be in this uniform next year. It affects a lot of us.

"Over 50 percent of our team will be [free agents] next year. It's tough."

Jason Kidd, Delonte West, Yi Jianlian, Brian Cardinal, and Ian Mahinmi are also scheduled to hit free agency this summer.

Pacers, Suns, Blazers, Mavericks Interested In Eric Gordon

Apr 13, 2012 11:10 AM

Eric Gordon has enjoyed his time with New Orleans, though he has been limited to just five games this season.

Gordon will be a restricted free agent this summer after his agent, Rob Pelinka, and the Hornets were unsuccessful in their attempt to negotiate an extension.

"The first thing I'd say is that we have a very underrated coach," Gordon said by phone on Tuesday. "He's one of the best coaches out there, and we're definitely an underrated team. I know our record [16-42] doesn't speak for itself, but I've been out more than half the season. The Hornets really do have good fans, too. I really can't say too many negatives about it.

"Overall, it's better than what people probably would think if they hadn't lived here. It's been enjoyable."

The Hornets will be able to match any offer Gordon receives on the open market.

"We want him here for the long term; we're looking forward to signing him this summer," Hornets general manager Dell Demps told SI.com. "We think he is a big-time player who can score, and we're thrilled to have him. He's a big part of our plans for the future."

Sources close to the situation said Indiana, Phoenix, Portland and Dallas are among the teams with interest in Gordon.

Odom Had Halftime Incident With Cuban

Apr 11, 2012 11:53 AM

Lamar Odom had an exchange with Mark Cuban during halftime of Saturday's game against Memphis. The incident led the Mavericks to decide to part ways with Odom.

''Just his response to it. Everybody goes through ups and downs. Every player does. We tried to put him in a position to succeed. ... It didn't work,'' Cuban said.

Odom had played four minutes in the first half, which Cuban described as uninspired.

''I just asked him, does he want to go for it or not. Is he in or is he out? I think he thought we were playing poker. I just didn't get a commitment. And that was the end,'' Cuban said. ''This was a big game for us, and he wasn't connecting to that. And if you're not positive energy, you're negative energy.''

Odom averaged career lows with Dallas and also was late for numerous team practices and meetings.

''He didn't want to play. He decided to go elsewhere or do something else. Now we regroup and go forward,'' Cuban said. ''We kept on hoping things would turn out right. It just got to the point where there weren't enough games in the season to try to find out.''

Warriors Have Lamar Odom On Radar

Apr 11, 2012 10:45 AM

The Warriors have Lamar Odom on their radar to fill the small forward position next season, according to sources.

Golden State is set at the other four starting positions, but Golden State believes Odom would be an upgrade at small forward over Dorell Wright, Brandon Rush, Dominic McGuire and Richard Jefferson.

Odom is set to make $8.2 million next year. But Dallas has a team option. If they cut him, only $2.4 million of that is guaranteed.

The Warriors could make a play for Odom via trade on draft day.

Mavericks Feeling Absence Of Kidd

Apr 9, 2012 12:50 PM

The Mavericks are 1-3 during the recent absence of Jason Kidd. Dallas hopes to have him back in the lineup on Tuesday against Sacramento.

“We need his veteran leadership, his ability to make passes and not turn the ball over," Dirk Nowitzki said. “We definitely need it, so hopefully we'll see him at some point next week and keep the troops together and stay healthy and make a push here towards the playoffs.''

Mavs Agree To Part Ways With Odom

Apr 9, 2012 10:31 AM

The Mavericks have reached an agreement that will allow Lamar Odom to leave the team without being released.

"The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it's in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team," Odom said in a statement. "I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."

Odom will be listed as inactive for the rest of the season, leaving open the possibility that Dallas could still trade him after the season in conjunction with the draft.

He averaged just 6.6 points on 35 percent shooting.
