NBA Acknowledges Officials Missed Late Call In Mavericks-Timberwolves

Dec 31, 2013 2:11 PM

The NBA acknowledged the officiating crew should have called a foul on Shawn Marion to put Kevin Love at the free throw line near the end of regulation in the Dallas Mavericks' 100-98 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Marion swiped down and appeared to foul Love, who was attempting a game-tying jumper from the left baseline.

“Through postgame video review, we have determined that Minnesota’s Kevin Love was fouled on the right arm by Dallas’ Shawn Marion while attempting a two-point field goal," Rod Thorn said. "Love should have been awarded two free throws with one second left on the clock.”

Nowitzki Credits Don Nelson For Development As 'Stretch Four'

Dec 30, 2013 1:21 PM

Dirk Nowitzki was one of the NBA's first "stretch fours", which was an innovative concept developed in part by Don Nelson.

"When I first got in the league. . .I think a lot of (power forwards) and (centers) were more back-to-back basket players."

Teams now often look for big men with the ability to stretch the floor to create space.

"I've got to give Nellie a lot of credit,'' Nowitzki said. "He was an offensive genius.

"He was a coach when I first got to Dallas, and if I would have gone to any other system I don't if I would have turned out that way.''

Devin Harris To Begin Practice During Second Week Of January

Dec 29, 2013 12:11 AM

Devin Harris plans to participate in his first full practice of the season during the second week of January.

Harris has yet to play after undergoing surgery on a toe on his left foot this past summer.

“Pain is my guide,” Harris said. “And there’s no pain right now.

“I’m confident that we’ve figured out the problem, but we just want to test it when it’s right. It’s more important to be 100 percent right than anything else.”

Sources: Luol Deng Receiving Interest From Cavaliers, Mavericks, Lakers, Raptors, Spurs, Grizzlies, Nets

Dec 27, 2013 2:53 PM

Luol Deng is already receiving interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets among others, according to sources.

The Bulls have reportedly decided they will try to re-sign Deng in free agency.

“I’ve moved around a lot, but this is the longest I’ve been in one place my whole life and I came here at 19," Deng said. "I’m 28 now. I pretty much grew up here. So for me to think about being somewhere else, it’s a weird feeling. But at the same time, I don’t know what it’s like to be somewhere else. I’ve been here my whole career. Maybe it’s better, maybe it’s not. I don’t know that. The best thing I can do is play, be the best I can be and hope it works out. I don’t know if it will be here, if it will be somewhere else. I don’t know that.

"But right now, I can’t hang on to that. I can’t control that. I think when the season’s over and everything is done, then you sit down and you go through that stuff. But for me to think about it now, it’s just a waste of energy because I don’t even know — what am I supposed to think about? I don’t know what city. So it’s just a waste of time.”

Brandon Jennings Not Surprised By His Success, Nor Monta's In Leaving Bucks

Dec 5, 2013 11:41 AM

The Milwaukee Bucks are 3-15 after losing both members of their starting backcourt from last season, Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis, in free agency.

Jennings and Ellis are both playing well with their new teams.

"It's the situation he's in," Jennings said of Ellis' explosion.  "He's on a team where they need somebody to score.  Dirk (Nowitzki) is not that scorer like he used to be. He still can do it, don't get me wrong. But he (Ellis) is in a situation kind of like he was in at Golden State, before Stephen Curry and all of them got there. So he's the main scorer and he's the guy."

The pairing of Jennings and Ellis was ill-fitted.

"We're two players that need the ball," said Jennings.

"Here, I can just run the team," Jennings said.  "I'm playing with an unbelievable frontcourt. My assists are high, higher than they ever have been so far, which I'm really happy about. I'm just finding guys and just learning how to control the game down the stretch and win."
