Rockets Receive 'Hopeful Signals' Of Dwight Howard's Interest

May 31, 2013 11:30 AM

The Houston Rockets have received "hopeful signals" that Dwight Howard is genuinely considering signing with the team in free agency, according to sources.

Howard has conveyed interest in joining James Harden with the Rockets.

Sources say Howard will make in-person recruiting visits to the Rockets and Dallas Mavericks once free agency begins.

Howard may add other teams to the list.

The Los Angeles Lakers can offer a five-year deal worth $120 million to Howard, though their financial advantage isn't as significant as it seems due to the absence of state taxes in Texas.

Cuban Clears Shark Tank Schedule For Free Agency

May 30, 2013 10:36 AM

Mark Cuban was unable to meet with Deron Williams on July 1st last year due to a contractual obligation to tape Shark Tank.

The Dallas Mavericks intend to pursue Dwight Howard and Chris Paul as their top priorities.

"I will be chasing free agents and not at Shark Tank on July 1st," said Cuban. "So I'll get that out of the way. I've been grinding. I keep that trophy ... to remind me every morning what the goal is. There's no other focus right now. I've got, I don't know 70 businesses, they all know right now it's all about basketball."

Cavaliers, Mavericks, Bobcats Interested In DeMarcus Cousins

May 29, 2013 12:59 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Bobcats and Dallas Mavericks are three teams that have interest in trading for DeMarcus Cousins if the new ownership of the Sacramento Kings decide to part ways with their most valued asset, according to sources.

The Bobcats are motivated to turnaround their long rebuilding situation and would surely be willing to build a package for Cousins around the No. 4 pick.

Cousins would be 'Plan C' for the Mavericks if they are unable to sign either Chris Paul or Dwight Howard.

Cousins is entering the final season of his contract before reaching restricted free agency.

Cuban: Mavericks Have Two-Year Plan To Return To Championship Contention

May 25, 2013 7:44 PM

Mark Cuban has a two-year plan to return the Dallas Mavericks to championship contention.

"We want to be a championship team. We've never said we have to be a championship team this year," Cuban said Saturday. "We want to be a better team, a top-seed team. If we get the top free agent, that doesn't leave us a whole lot of flexibility to add a lot of players, but we have a good nucleus around them. We know we'll have a good team, but we won't know if we have a great team.

"If you look at this like a two-year plan, then we think we're on a track to have a great team by the end of next year."

The Mavericks are believed to be targeting Dwight Howard or Chris Paul in free agency.

"I can make an argument why we should absolutely go after the big fish and I can make an argument on why we shouldn't,” Cuban said. “There are a lot of really, really good players that, in combination, that I think can make us a top-3 or 4-seed in the West."

Mavericks Could Trade Or Stash 13th Pick

May 25, 2013 7:25 PM

Mark Cuban admitted on Saturday that the Dallas Mavericks could end up trading or stashing their 13th overall pick in this year's NBA draft.

To prevent the player's $1.66 million against the salary cap, the Mavericks might draft a player "to stash overseas somewhere," Cuban said.

"If you look at this like a two-year plan, then we think we're on track to have a great team by the end of next year," Cuban said.

Dwight Howard is considering signing with the Golden State Warriors as well as the previously reported Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks, a source close to the player said Thursday.

According to the source, Howard's main concern involves "what team he feels has the best chance to win championships, has the best team and system around him."

Howard can't officially sign with a team until July 10, when a moratorium on NBA business is lifted.
