Nowitzki Plans On Playing Several More Seasons

Feb 24, 2014 12:16 PM

Dirk Nowitzki plans to play for several more seasons.

Nowitzki will turn 36 on June 19, less than two weeks before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

“I’m a free agent this summer, and I’ll probably sign on for two or three years,” Nowitzki said. “And then I can sign a bunch of one-year deals, I guess, after that, as long as I want and as long as it feels good.”

Nowitzk believes there is less stress on his body as a big than there is for guards.

“Standing in the corner shooting a 3-ball will never be a problem,” said Nowitzki. “It’s running up and down; it’s competing on the boards, the showing on the pick-and-rolls where you’ve got to run out there with the small guys — I think that’s the problem.

“And the preparation obviously you have to do every summer. Once I get tired of that, I think it’ll be over pretty quick because you’ve got to put in a lot of work at this age to still perform on a high level.”

Nowitzki is being paid $22.7 million this season.

Mavericks, Pistons, Pacers Discuss Luol Deng Trade With Cavaliers

Feb 19, 2014 5:46 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have held trade talks with the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers on Luol Deng.

There is little traction on the talks as no team seems inclined to give up highly valued assets for Deng, who will be a free agent in the offseason.

Deng is determined to test free agency before making a decision on whether to re-sign with the Cavaliers.

Deng will be seeking a deal in the $12 million to $13 million per season range.

The Brooklyn Nets are now willing to go forward with a trade for Jordan Hill despite a huge tax hit.

The Nets can acquire Hill using their Disabled Player Exception.

The Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks have also discussed a trade for Hill with the Lakers, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

Lakers, Mavericks Seek Unlikely Trade For Kevin Love Ahead Of Deadline

Feb 18, 2014 5:35 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks are attempting to put together trade offers to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love.

The Wolves have given no indication they have interest in moving Love ahead of Thursday's deadline.

Love could become a free agent in 2015 and it is widely known that his agents is determined to get him to a major market.

Love's first choice is joining the Lakers, according to one person familiar with his thinking.

The Lakers' offer would have to include the expiring contract of Pau Gasol. The Lakers can also offer future picks, though not their selection in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Mavericks Not Searching For Roster Changes

Feb 15, 2014 12:49 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are willing to listen but are not searching for roster changes. They currently have 15 guaranteed contracts.

Donnie Nelson discussed the Mavericks' approach heading into next week's trade deadline.

“We’re always looking for ways to improve," Nelson said. "Now with that being said, all of the parts are pretty intricately in twined. To get you got to give and right now the team is looking good.

"We’re not looking for reasons to change, but if something presented itself, obviously we’ll look at it.”
