Lakers, Bulls, Mavericks, Timberwolves Have Secondary Interest In Chandler Parsons

Jun 29, 2014 12:58 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves have secondary interest in Chandler Parsons, according to a source.

The Lakers, Bulls and Mavericks are expected to pursue free agents such as Carmelo Anthony or LeBron James and could turn their attention toward Parsons.

The Rockets made Parsons a restricted free agent by declining the team option on his contract for next season and the team remains interested in keeping him.

"When I got drafted in the second round, I signed the four-year deal and everyone has to go through their rookie scale," Parsons said. "It was all part of the process. I obviously thought I deserved more. But I never was bitter or jealous of anyone making more than me. I was just fortunate enough to do this for a living.

"I feel like I'm in a win-win situation because it's happening a year early. I think a lot of teams could be interested. With the way I play and my versatility, I feel I can pretty much help any team."

Mavericks Will Pitch Top Free Agents On Organization, Won't Offer Max Deals

Jun 29, 2014 12:07 AM

The Dallas Mavericks plan to aggressively pursue the top available players in free agency but won't offer maximum-salary contracts.

Dirk Nowitzki is expected to re-sign with the Mavericks on a deal that will pay him enough to continue to feel "respected."

"We're going to swing for the fences," Mark Cuban said on Saturday. "I think some of these guys are opting out just to create leverage, and they'll go back. Then there's some that really want to go to different teams. We'll try to put ourselves in position to get them."

The Mavericks' pitch to free agents will be centered on their organization and Rick Carlisle. Cuban considers Carlisle one of the Mavericks' best assets.

"Everybody thought we were going to get crushed," Cuban said. "That allows us not to say, 'Hey, we played them the best,' but allows us to say, 'Look, when it comes to the playoffs in particular, Rick has got the skill set and we've got veteran guys who know how to implement offensive and defensive strategies that really give us a unique opportunity.' That's something that very few teams can say.

"If you look at other teams with cap room and then you just look at their coach and if they've made the playoffs, you look at how their playoff runs went, you're not looking at them and saying, 'Wow, that team really ... .' I don't want to throw anybody under the bus, but their coaches are not as good as Rick Carlisle."

Carmelo To Make Decision After Visits With Knicks, Bulls, Lakers, Rockets, Mavs

Jun 27, 2014 1:37 PM

Carmelo Anthony plans on making his decision in the second week of July after taking several visits in free agency.

Anthony is expected to meet with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. A source made no mention of meeting with the Miami Heat.

The source said that Anthony loves New York and playing for the Knicks, but there are questions surrounding the future of the franchise.

Phil Jackson was evasive when asked by reporters Thursday night if he would be willing to complete a sign-and-trade with Anthony if he opts to go elsewhere. The source added that the Knicks and Anthony have had no discussions about the possibility of a sign-and-trade.

Carmelo Not Expected To Consider Heat, Lakers

Jun 26, 2014 2:11 AM

Carmelo Anthony will visit the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls once free agency begins on July 1.

"Those three teams plus the Knicks seem to be the ones he's going to consider," one source said.

There does not appear to be a frontrunner at this point for Anthony.

Anthony is not expected to meet formally with the Los Angeles Lakers, but he's being recruited by Kobe Bryant. The two spoke by telephone earlier this week and Bryant told ESPN via text message that he plans to meet with Anthony as well.

The Miami Heat do not appear to be a viable option for Anthony. There had been reports about Anthony joining the Heat with the proposed Big 4 taking significant pay reductions, but sources said there has been no talk about that possibility from his camp.

Knicks, Mavs Agree To Chandler, Felton For Calderon, Dalembert, Larkin, Two 2nd Rounders

Jun 25, 2014 5:50 PM

The Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks have agreed upon a trade involving Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton for Samuel Dalembert, Jose Calderon, Shane Larkin and Wayne Ellington.

In the proposed trade, the Knicks would also receive the Mavericks' No. 34 and No. 51 overall picks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Chandler was with the Mavericks in 2011 when they won the NBA Finals. The Mavericks elected to let him leave in free agency thinking he would soon be in decline and to maintain cap space to pursue Dwight Howard and Chris Paul or Deron Williams.

Dirk Nowitzki: Mavs Would Love To Have Carmelo Anthony

Jun 16, 2014 3:44 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are a reported suitor for Carmelo Anthony in the July free agency, and Dirk Nowitzki addressed the speculation.

"If Carmelo would really love to come here, we'd love to have him," Nowitzki said.

The Mavericks are projected to have as much as $30 million in salary cap space this offseason. Nowitzki added he is confident he would have no problem coexisting with Anthony.

"Listen, I think I've showed over my 16 years that I can play with anybody," Nowitzki said. "The only tough season I think we've had is when we had [Antawn] Jamison and Antoine Walker and myself who are all three kind of the same four-men, but other than that I think I've shown over my career that I can play with anybody. I'll adjust, whether I have to get out of the way or go to the corner more, post up, pass. I'll do whatever, really, that needs to be done out there to win or for this franchise to be a winner."
