Al-Farouq Aminu To Become Free Agent

Apr 30, 2015 12:22 PM

Al-Farouq Aminu will test free agency rather than take his $1.1 million player option for the 15-16 season with the Dallas Mavericks.

Aminu outperformed expectations with the Mavericks.

“I think it makes the most sense to me,” he said. “You just look for a great fit. This year, I think I found one. Hopefully, I can do the same.”

“We were lucky Al chose us,” Donnie Nelson said. “With an eye on the history that we’ve had here with Rick and our development program, he certainly should opt out, and he will, as noted. We hope to be in a position to reacquire his services.”

Rajon Rondo Excluded From Mavericks' Playoff Share

Apr 29, 2015 4:40 PM

Rajon Rondo did not receive a playoff share as the Dallas Mavericks divided up $208,940, their portion as a team that competed in the first round.

Rondo left the team after Game 2, ostensibly with a back injury.

Rondo did not stay around to support his teammates.

Assuming the other 14 Maverick players got full playoff shares, their take per person was $14,924.

Report: Mavericks, Rajon Rondo Mutually Decided To Part Ways

Apr 29, 2015 1:31 PM

The Dallas Mavericks and Rajon Rondo made a mutual decision to part ways the day after Game 2.

Sources say the two sides framed the reasoning as a back injury as a favor to try to help Rondo save face.

Rondo was going to be replaced in the starting lineup for Game 3 regardless of the decision.

The Mavericks felt Rondo's behavior was impacting other players, particularly Monta Ellis.

Dirk Nowitzki said he didn't regret the Rondo deal after the Mavericks were eliminated in Game 5.

“If you can get a player like Rondo, I think you go for it any time,” Nowitzki said as he walked to the team bus for the final time of his 17th season. “I don’t think anybody is looking back at that now. It was a deal that was there. It was a deal we went for it, and it just didn’t pan out for both sides, and both sides moved on.

“But Mark (Cuban) and Donnie (Nelson) always pull the trigger to make this team better. Sometimes it works, sometimes it’s a gamble and sometimes it doesn’t. So you just move on afterwards.”

Sources: DeAndre Jordan Interested In Playing For Mavs

Apr 29, 2015 8:29 AM

DeAndre Jordan has made it clear through back channels that he will be extremely interested in coming to play for the Dallas Mavericks, according to sources.

Signing Jordan would mean letting Tyson Chandler leave again after another one-season stint with the Mavs.

"That's up to management and what they decide to do," Chandler said of his possible future in Dallas.

Lakers Remain Interested In Rajon Rondo Despite New Skepticism

Apr 28, 2015 1:34 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers remain interested in signing Rajon Rondo this offseason, but sources say Jim Buss is not the believer in his game he was earlier in the season.

Mitch Kupchak also believes Rondo is only a value at a certain price.

The Lakers hope to sign a foundational piece in free agency and they're not convinced Rondo is that type of player.

The Lakers are expected to have approximately $22 million in cap space.

Chandler Parsons May Need Microfracture Surgery

Apr 27, 2015 7:41 PM

Chandler Parsons may need to undergo microfracture surgery on his right knee. There remains a possibility that the cartilage damage could be repaired with arthroscopic surgery.

Parsons would miss the beginning of next season if he undergoes microfracture surgery.

Parsons, who the Dallas Mavericks Mavs signed to a three-year, $46 million contract as a restricted free agent last season, missed the final six games of the regular season due to soreness and swelling in his right knee.

Carlisle Believes Refs Have Not Controlled Physicality In Mavs-Rockets Series

Apr 25, 2015 12:57 PM

Rick Carlisle criticized the officiating after the Dallas Mavericks' loss in Game 3 to fall to a 3-0 deficit to the Houston Rockets.

“They’re a more physical team,” Carlisle said, “but this series has got to be played within the rules.

“My hope is that in Game 4 — the one play that’s kind of an image stuck in my mind, and I just looked at it six times on the film, is the first play of the fourth quarter. We’re scrambling like hell defensively, and Devin Harris is going to get the ball, and Dwight Howard throws him into our bench.”

Mark Cuban also appeared agitated about the officiating, with Adam Silver in attendance.

“That stuff’s got to stop,” Carlisle said. “The officials [have] got to get that stuff under control, because there’s too much physical stuff going on. Howard is throwing people all over the place. And that can’t happen in Game 4.”

Brad Stevens 'Little Bit Surprised' By Rajon Rondo Situation With Dallas

Apr 23, 2015 8:01 PM

Brad Stevens, who coached Rajon Rondo for 52 games from last season until the Boston Celtics traded him in December, was surprised to see things end poorly for him with the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks announced on Wednesday that Rondo was “out indefinitely” with a back injury suffered in Game 2 against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night.

"Yes, I am [surprised]. I haven’t paid as much attention or read every article, or even really watched anything on it. Obviously, I’m aware of it. I’ve said many times I felt like Rajon had played really well at the start of the year,” Stevens said before the Celtics took on the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 of their first-round series.

"I coached him during a really tough time for him, simply because last he was never, he was just overcoming and coming back from that ACL tear. Not having any practice, which is really unique. It was just a matter of getting him to feel a bit better."

The Mavericks insist that Rondo’s back injury is completely separate from his issues with coach Rick Carlisle, who has openly feuded with the guard. Rondo was suspended by the Mavericks in late February after a verbal altercation with Carlisle in the second half of a game against the Toronto Raptors. Carlisle did nothing to downplay speculation of a rift with Rondo when asked if the free-agent-to-be would ever play for Dallas again, the coach said: “No, I don’t.”

In 46 games with the Mavericks, Rondo averaged 9.3 points, 6.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds on 43.6% shooting. Those numbers dipped significantly in his two playoff games.

"I was around him a lot this summer, around him a lot this fall,” Stevens continued. "He had the unfortunate hand break at the start of the season and that put him behind again, although I thought he played pretty well here. So, yes, I was a little bit surprised."
