Dec 19, 2017 12:56 PM

The Dallas Mavericks have signed guard Kyle Collinsworth to a two-way contract. In a related move, the Mavericks requested waivers on guard-forward Antonius Cleveland and center Jeff Withey.

Collinsworth (6-6, 210) has spent the past two seasons with the Mavericks’ G League affiliate, the Texas Legends. He holds averages of 8.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.7 steals and 30.1 minutes per game in 54 career G League games (34 starts). In 18 games (all starts) for the Legends in 2017-18, he averaged 11.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.7 steals in 35.8 minutes per game.

After going undrafted in 2016 out of BYU, Collinsworth competed for Dallas at the 2016 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. He spent the 2016 preseason with the Mavericks before being waived by the team on Oct. 22, 2016.

Dirk Nowitzki Encouraged By Health, Expects To Play Next Season

Dec 14, 2017 5:59 PM

Dirk Nowitzki hasn't reached a final decision yet, but he is leaning towards continuing his playing career in 18-19.

“I’m not going to say 100 percent I’ll be back -- but it’s looking like it,” Nowitzki said on Thursday. “I feel fine so far. I’ve played every game. I’d love to play all 82. That would be amazing at [age] 39. We’ll see how the body feels. But so far, it’s been fine.”

Nowitzki has been reluctant to speculate on his playing status beyond this season.

Nowitzki signed a two-year contract in July for $5 million per season, with the 2018-19 season at the team’s option.

Nowitzki knew the Mavericks would be rebuilding this season.

“We drafted an unbelievable prospect this summer [Dennis Smith Jr.],” he said. “I figured we’re going to be a team that’s rebuilding a little bit and trying to get better and trying to get back to winning ways.

“I signed up for, obviously, two years to help the franchise push through that and get better. I didn’t think we would be sitting here 10 [games] over .500. I mean, I wasn’t delusional. We felt like we might have a shot at sneaking into the playoffs. And we still do. We’ve played the toughest schedule in basketball to this point.

“As long as my body feels fine like it has so far, with no setbacks like last year when I missed two months, I’m looking forward to hopefully fulfilling my contract.”

Nerlens Noel Doesn't Regret Rejecting $70M Offer From Mavericks

Dec 13, 2017 4:20 PM

When Nerlens Noel fired Happy Walters in August and replaced him with Rich Paul, there were no new contract talks with the Dallas Mavericks.

Noel rejected a four-year deal with the Mavericks worth approximately $70 million.

Noel ultimately signed for the qualifying offer at $4.1 million for one season.

The Mavericks dropped Noel from the rotation and he underwent surgery on his left thumb.

"I have no idea," Noel told Bleacher Report when asked why he thinks he was removed from the rotation. "I know that I'm working hard and through it and making sure I'm going to always be ready when my number's called. Just make sure I'm on top of everything else, that I'm getting better, make sure I'm getting my extra work in so when that time comes to get back in the rotation, I'll be ready."

While Noel had an incident recently in which he grabbed a hot dog from the media room at halftime of a game, the Mavericks insist he's remained professional.

"He's been very professional, with the exception of the hot dog incident the other night, which we all had fun with," Carlisle told reporters last week. "That's over with now, and he realized that was a mistake. ... Our No. 1 thing as a team ... is just getting him 100 percent healthy."

"Nerlens has been great," Mark Cuban said. "He's been great in the locker room, a total professional."

"I most definitely don't regret anything. I'm not nervous because I know my abilities," Noel told Bleacher Report. "I know what I'm capable of. I know what I can get on the court any time, day or night, and do. It's simply getting the opportunity to show it."

Mavericks Lead NBA In Home Attendance Rate, Last In Away Rate

Dec 12, 2017 10:19 AM

The Dallas Mavericks lead the NBA in home attendance rate at 102.8 percent of capacity, but have the league's worst road attendance rate.

The average attendance when Dallas plays on the road is just 86 percent of capacity.

The Mavericks have sold out every home game since Dec. 15, 2001. One way the Mavericks have kept the streak going is by donating unsold tickets to charity.

“It’s far more important to me to build a fan base for the future,” Mark Cuban said in an email. “And the best way to do that is to get people to a game.”

Cuban said the sellout streak is not that important to him.

“For slow games, we will use our community service group to proactively invite groups to a game,” Cuban said. If a game doesn’t sell out on its own, the Mavs can donate the remaining tickets and still call it out a sellout. “Tickets are perishable,” Cuban said. “We feel like having a seat full with a young fan creates a Mavericks fan for life. It’s an investment in building our future fan base.”

Nerlens Noel Out 4-6 Weeks With Thumb Surgery

Dec 7, 2017 10:01 AM

Nerlens Noel will undergo surgery on a torn ligament near his left thumb.

Noel will likely be out between four and six weeks.

The Dallas Mavericks hope Noel returns before the trade deadline. Noel rejected a four-year, $72 million offer from Dallas this past offseason and signed for the qualifying offer.

"It's not anything crazy," Noel said. "It's a pretty common injury for a basketball player. I'm just going to get it taken care of. I showed it to the trainers and they said, that it's not right. They said I should probably get some surgery and get it fixed up now.

"I can play basketball with it. A couple guys in here have had it."
