Nuggets coach George Karl criticized Carmelo Anthony during a halftime interview with TNT on Thursday night.
Denver traded Anthony to New York earlier this week.
Karl said that Anthony's "defensive focus, his demand of himself, is what frustrated us more than anything."
Shortly after Karl made the comments, Anthony posted the following on his Twitter account: "Damn, are u serious. Some people never [cease] to amaze me. Unbelievable."
He followed with "WHEN THE GRASS IS CUT THE SNAKES WILL SHOW."
Anthony was asked Friday to expand on his posts.
"That's him. That's George Karl so I don't really try to pay too much attention to that," Anthony told the New York Daily News. "I know what I've done there in the 7½ years I've been there; going to the Western Conference Finals. Last year, we were top five in a lot of categories. All that stuff, I don't know where it's coming from. I try not to pay too much attention to it."
Carmelo Anthony seemed to use Twitter to respond to criticism from George Karl in an interview segment that aired during the TNT broadcast of the game between Denver and Boston on Thursday.
In that interview, Karl said that Anthony was the best offensive player he has ever coached but that Anthony's commitment on the defensive end was lacking.
Moments after the segment, Anthony Tweeted the following:
"Damn, are u serious. Some people never seize [sic] to amaze me. Unbelievable," Anthony wrote. "WHEN THE GRASS IS CUT THE SNAKES WILL SHOW."
After the Nuggets defeated the Celtics, Anthony Tweeted again, congratulating his former teammates on the victory.
"Congrats to the homies. Great win tonite," he wrote.
The Nuggets traded Carmelo Anthony in a blockbuster deal that netted the team Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov and Kostas Koufos this week, but are unlikely to make any additional moves.
Denver had been in talks to flip one or more of their newly acquired players in separate trades.
Dallas had been pursuing J.R Smith with the hope of re-reuniting him with consultant Tim Grgurich who worked with Smith in Denver.
But the Nuggets are not interested in the deal.
The Mavericks are making last-ditch efforts to acquire Tayshaun Prince or J.R. Smith ahead of Thursday's NBA trade deadline, according to sources.
However, Dallas isn't overly optimistic about acquiring either player.
Prince and Smith have been high on the team's wish list since Caron Butler went down with a serious knee injury. Their skill set and expiring contracts interest the Mavericks.
The Pistons have rebuffed every inquiry about Prince and the Bulls are the most often mentioned destination for Smith.
Carmelo Anthony has reached out to The Denver Post about purchasing an advertisement in the Sunday paper to thank Nuggets fans for their support.
Anthony was drafted with the third overall pick by the Nuggets in 2003 when he was 19-years-old and he scored 13,970 points for the franchise.
He received his wish of a trade to the Knicks earlier this week.
Carmelo Anthony and his wife La La Vasquez will be the subjects of a new reality television show on VH1 about their lives. The first moments of the show will presumably be when Anthony arrived at the airport on Tuesday night to make his debut as a Knick on Wednesday. The show's cameras were present.
Alan Hahn poses the question of whether the show's producers knew something in advance. It is reasonable to wonder what this indicates about whether Anthony was ever serious about remaining in Denver, or whether he could have resisted signing an extension with the Nets if he had no other way of landing in the New York metropolitan area.
George Karl is glad that the Nuggets can focus on basketball now that the Carmelo Anthony saga is over, but he admitted Tuesday night that the trade of Anthony and Chauncey Billups to the Knicks was an emotional one.
"I can't deny that when the trade went down last night, I was kind of more sad than happy," Karl said. "I think most of that sadness was because of Chauncey -- and [Anthony Carter] a little bit, too."
Denver could have lost Anthony in free agency this coming summer without getting anything in return. That led Karl to praise the new front office team of Masai Ujiri and Josh Kroenke, saying they "hit a home run the first time up."
"I think they did a great job," Karl said. "And the kitchen got hot. The kitchen got hot and they did a great job of keeping their composure and direction. I think they get philosophically what they want and we get philosophically what we want as a coaching staff. So, it's a win-win. And I think it's a win-win for the Knicks, too. So, I think Donnie Walsh and Mark Warkentien in a strange way, we all I think worked the dynamics of a very difficult situation into a win-win."
Carmelo Anthony is now officially a member of the New York Knicks.
The three-way trade involving the Knicks, Nuggets and Wolves has been approved by the league office and announced formally.
Going to New York with Anthony are Chauncey Billups, Anthony Carter, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams, along with Corey Brewer from Minnesota.
The Nuggets have acquired Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov from the Knicks, along with Kosta Koufos from the Wolves.
Minnesota has received the expiring contract of Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph, plus a second round pick from Denver.
Denver also acquires New York's first round pick 2014, second round picks in 2012 and 2013, plus cash.
As first reported by RealGM, the Nuggets will also acquire two traded player exceptions. The largest exception will be worth approximately $17.15 million. The Nuggets were originally going to acquire four traded player exceptions, but the inclusion of Kosta Koufos changed the equation.
