Iguodala Hoping To Stay With Nuggets Long-Term

Jan 25, 2013 8:40 PM

Andre Iguodala appears to be leaning toward staying with the Denver Nuggets long-term, and to do so, he'd have to opt out of his current contract this upcoming offseason and sign a multi-year extension.

“A lot of players have done it where they’ve gave up a large bulk of their contract, say, giving up $16 million to get $60 million,” said Iguodala, who turns 29 years old on Monday. “In the grand scheme of things that makes sense. But if you give up $16 million and you get $20 million (it doesn’t make sense). So it’s all about playing your cards right and seeing where you’re at. At the end of the day winning takes care of everything, so if we win here, then hopefully the organization and myself will come to an agreement and we’ll continue to build on what we have here.”

Iguodala is slated to earn $16.2 million next season.

If Iguodala opts out, he'll almost assuredly have to accept a lower annual salary.

Iguodala 'Behind The Curve' With Nuggets

Jan 19, 2013 7:53 PM

Andre Iguodala evaluated his transition to the Denver Nuggets.

Iguodala was acquired by Denver last summer as part of a four-team trade that sent Arron Afflalo and Al Harrington to Orlando.

“I’m probably behind the curve,” Iguodala said. “It’s been a roller-coaster as far as comfort level, the ups and downs of the NBA season, but that happens in transition. The main thing is to stay positive, continue to do the little things well and hopefully once out of slumps faster instead of letting them linger on.”

Iguodala is coming off three games in which he shot a combined 26.7 percent from the floor.

“I think he’s putting too much pressure on himself, he’s thinking too much,” Nuggets coach George Karl said. “For me, it’s just trying to get him some easy baskets, simplify, get some confidence in his game and he’ll be fine. He’s still a productive player, his plus-minus has been really good lately, we just need to get him more confidently engaged in the game.”

Karl Wants JaVale McGee To Be More Like Tim Duncan

Jan 18, 2013 7:01 PM

George Karl wishes JaVale McGee played more like Tim Duncan.

“I think he tries to be spectacular,” Karl said of McGee. “Basketball is a game of possession after possession of doing things the right way, doing your job and letting the spectacular. I think JaVale tries to find the spectacular and forces the spectacular when if you just let Andre Miller and Ty [Lawson], let us orchestrate the game, something big time will happen. But I just want him to be more Tim Duncan-like. I tell him I like Tim Duncan. I want Tim Duncan. That’s what I want.”

McGee leads the Nuggets in player efficiency rating at 21.6.

“I think he’s a tremendous talent. I think he’s an incredible, athletic, 7-1, whatever he is,” Karl said. “For me, I just want him to be more consistent on the fundamental area of basketball and more than anything, I want him to be more committed to the concepts and philosophies and fundamentals of our team.”

Timofey Mozgov On Trade Block

Jan 14, 2013 5:43 PM

The Denver Nuggets are looking to trade Timofey Mozgov, according to league sources, and the young center knows he could be dealt before this season's trade deadline.

“It think it’s logical, you can see that, trading me,’’ Mozgov said. “I’m in my contract year. So if they can get something for me… I don’t think it would be a surprise for me (to be traded).’’

The Miami Heat could make a bid for Mozgov.

"I heard Miami is trying to find a big guy,’’ Mozgov said when asked about the Heat, who have had rebounding problems all season. “We’ll see. I don’t know (what might happen).’’

Wilson Chandler Pain-Free In Return, Hopes To Knock Off Rust

Jan 14, 2013 2:13 PM

After playing just three games before suffering a hip injury, Wilson Chandler returned to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday and scored 14 points in 20 effective minutes.

Chandler is finally pain-free and was encouraged by his first game back, but he admitted he still has room for improvement with his basketball shape.

“Still got a ways to go," Chandler said. "... Hopefully a couple of weeks or even faster than that. Just continue doing the same things I’ve been doing the last few months and see where I go from there. It felt good just to be out there, having fun. Last year and this year not being healthy, it’s frustrating, but it’s part of the game.”
