Suns Turn To Grant Hill

Jun 30, 2007 6:11 AM

Now that it is clear that Kevin Garnett will not be in Arizona, the Phoenix Suns are shifting their attention to trying to lure Grant Hill to the desert, the Arizona Republic is reporting.

The Suns will try to sell Hill on the lovely weather, team chemistry, relaxed practices and friendly atmosphere, but will have only a veteran’s minimum contract to put on the table ($1.2 million, $770,610 which would count against the cap). Other teams can offer a lot more money (Toronto, Orlando) while others can offer more than the Suns and offer a similar or better chance at success (Detroit, San Antonio).

Hill has let Phoenix know for years he was interested in playing here. Sources confirm he was in the Valley last weekend, although both sides swear there was no contact between player and team. When asked if he felt the Suns or the Spurs were a better fit, Hill told ESPN radio he’d choose the Suns.

McDyess Decides Not To Opt Out

Jun 29, 2007 2:56 AM

Antonio McDyess decided on Thursday to not opt out of his contract and become a free agent this summer.

His decision means a long-term contract extension should be coming his way shortly after the Pistons re-sign McDyess' good friend, Chauncey Billups.

McDyess' decision comes at a great time for the Pistons, who were hoping to know McDyess' intentions prior to tonight's draft.

Flip Could Be Trade Fodder

Jun 28, 2007 12:35 PM

Pistons guard Flip Murray could be used as trade bait during tonight's draft after he picked up his player option for next season.

The Pistons still have no definitive news from forward Antonio McDyess or his agent, Andy Miller. But the team expects word to come sometime before the draft that the former All-Star will pick up his option as well.

C-Webb Unsure Of NBA Future

Jun 26, 2007 8:36 PM

Chris Webber is as unsure about his future in the NBA now as he was when the Detroit Pistons were eliminated in the Eastern Conference finals earlier this month.

"It's only been a few weeks, so honestly I'm just resting and letting things happen," the five-time All-Star said in a telephone interview. "I just don't know what I want to do yet and I have to be fair to everyone possibly involved."

Webber provided a boost to Detroit's starting lineup when he was signed in midseason following his release by the Philadelphia 76ers. Then, his uneven play in the playoffs seemed to frustrate him.

"I don't want to be in a situation where I'm just going through the motions, letting everything be said about me," the 34-year-old center said earlier this month after Detroit was knocked out by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Pistons teammates Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess recently declined similar options to both become unrestricted free agents.

Billups Opts Out Of Contract

Jun 25, 2007 12:46 PM

Chauncey Billups officially opted out of his contract Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent as of July 1.

"Chauncey's first intention is to come back to Detroit, and we'll continue to explore that as an option, but if we're unable to make a deal with the Pistons my obligation is to look at other possibilities that will provide long-term security for Chauncey and his family," agent Andy Miller told ESPN.com.

Billups was due to make $6,819,000 next season in the final year of his contract, which had an early termination option.

Dumars Says Suns' Asking Price For Marion Is Too High

Jun 17, 2007 10:01 AM

The Suns would want "two of your starting players, the 15th and the 27th pick for that?" said Joe Dumars recently, without acknowledging Shawn Marion by name.

"You know what you would tell them? Hell, the Lakers didn't get that for Shaq (O'Neal). Philly didn't get that for (Allen) Iverson."

Could Hill Return To Detroit?

Jun 16, 2007 10:43 PM

Friday's trade, of Carlos Delfino, cleared $1.86 million from next year's books and opened a spot for a backup swingman. The Pistons have interest in speaking with at least one -- former Piston Grant Hill -- when he becomes a free agent from Orlando on July 1

Marion Trade Rumors Resurface

Jun 12, 2007 4:13 AM

A league source confirmed Celtics coach Doc Rivers' interest in Suns forward Shawn Marion, and Danny Ainge, the Celtics' executive director of basketball operations, has been a fan of the forward since being his first Suns coach.

The Suns' interest in such a deal is unknown.

Marion's name also has surfaced in trade rumors with the Detroit Pistons, who would send forward-center Rasheed Wallace to Phoenix.

This idea would be conflicting for Phoenix.

Wallace's skills are a good fit, but his on-court behavior contrasts with the club's emphasis on character.
