Maggette Will Not Seek Buyout From Pistons

Mar 1, 2013 12:30 PM

Corey Maggette will not seek a buyout of the remainder of his contract with the Detroit Pistons.

"No, not at all," Maggette said. "I don't even know how it works."

Maggette hasn’t seen game action since Dec. 15.

"I like management here and I'm still able to help the young guys, that's been my MO with this season," Maggette said. "I haven't played, it's part of what happens sometimes. You know me, I've been positive about that. I haven't thought about getting a buyout."

Will Bynum Positioned To Stay With Pistons Past Deadline

Feb 21, 2013 12:55 AM

Barring a last-second deal forming, Will Bynum is poised to stay with the Detroit Pistons past Thursday’s trade deadline, agent Mark Bartelstein told RealGM.

Bynum had seemed expendable once the Pistons traded for Jose Calderon, but he has averaged 10.6 points in seven games since Calderon joined the lineup and Detroit appears locked into its current roster to end the season.

Bynum, 30, is in the last year of his contract, averaging 9.2 points and 3.8 assists over 45 games.

Kobe Bryant Nearly Traded To Pistons In 2007

Feb 18, 2013 8:00 PM

Prior to the 2007-08 season, Jerry Buss invited Kobe Bryant to his home and warned he had a deal to send the Los Angeles Lakers' star to the Detroit Pistons -- a team that wasn't one of Bryant's preferred destinations as part of his trade demand.

Bryant then realized he didn't want to waive his no-trade clause to leave the Lakers and, most importantly, his owner.

"It hit me that I didn't really want to walk out on Dr. Buss," Bryant said Monday.

The Pistons' package for Bryant included a combination of their core players and draft picks, according to sources.

Buss passed away on Monday morning.

Will Bynum Unbothered By Possible Trade

Feb 12, 2013 11:36 AM

With the acquisition of Jose Calderon, the Detroit Pistons likely will have a smaller role for Will Bynum moving forward.

Bynum has an expiring contract, which could make him easier for the Pistons to trade.

"To be honest with you, I don't care," Bynum said Monday about trade rumors.  "All I care about is winning and trying to make the eighth spot (in the Eastern Conference playoffs). Whatever happens happens.

"Right now, I'm just concerned with us getting as many wins as possible, taking it one day at a time and trying to make the playoffs."

Drummond Limited With Back Pain

Feb 7, 2013 10:50 AM

Andre Drummond was limited to four minutes on Wednesday due to back pain.

Drummond played late in the first quarter and early in the second quarter and was clearly in discomfort.

"After I took that charge, it just hit me again," he said.

Drummond sat the rest of the game with his lower-left back strain near his tailbone, and the pain was evident on his face as he left.

"My back has been terrible," Drummond said.

Drummond initially suffered the injury on Sunday and was limited to eight minutes in Monday's game at the Knicks.

"We thought he was good enough to go, he thought he was good enough to go, and then once you've seen him on the court, you see him labor out there," Lawrence Frank said.
