Drummond Making Sure Pistons' Rookies Arrive Early For Workouts

Aug 21, 2013 12:51 PM

Despite entering just his second NBA season, Andre Drummond is taking a leadership role in making sure the Detroit Pistons' three draft picks arrive early to Auburn Hills for workouts.

“Last year, I was here real early,” Drummond said. “I’m like, ‘You guys need to get here early. Just because you made it to the league, don’t think you can come back when all the veterans come back.’ ”

The Pistons drafted Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Peyton Siva and Tony Mitchell in June.

Drummond Dismisses Proposal Of Underhanded Free Throws

Aug 19, 2013 10:45 AM

Andre Drummond dismissed a proposal from an ESPN blogger that he experiments shooting free throws underhanded if he doesn't improve his shooting in the near-future.

“If your free throw shooting doesn't improve like Joe Dumars hopes it will, please consider shooting them underhand. Of all the players who have been in this position, you’re uniquely suited to the dramatic style change,” Ethan Sherwood Strauss wrote. “You’re unique, funny, and increasingly popular among fans, who see you as an antidote to the buttoned-down athlete cliché. If you adopt something as retro-cool as the underhand free throw, fans will love you for it. Make it your signature.”

Drummond responded on Twitter.

“Let me make this clear.... I’m not shooting free throws underhand.. #Relax”

Jennings Isn't Promised Pistons' Starting Point Guard Job

Aug 7, 2013 1:28 PM

Joe Dumars isn't sure who will start at point guard for the Detroit Pistons this season.

Brandon Jennings is assumed to have the inside track, but will compete with Chauncey Billups and Peyton Siva.

Billups said he was returning to the Pistons to be their starter at point guard.

"So did Will Bynum, so did Peyton Siva, so did Brandon Jennings. They all told me that when they signed," president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said with a laugh. "I was like, 'Yeah, you are. You right, bro. I said that to all of them. 'You right, bro.'"

Maurice Cheeks will ultimately make the decision.

"I don't know yet," Dumars said. "I can tell you what Mo has told every guy from Chauncey to Brandon to every guy. He said, 'Look, come in and earn it. I'm going to give it to whoever earns it.' He said that to every single guy.

"He said, 'Joe I'm not going to put myself in a trick box where I'm committing myself to something and it doesn't play out.' So, he's kept it wide open. He said, 'Let's see what happens.' That's exactly what he said. That's exactly how it's going to be."

Jennings Hoping To Bring Lob City Element To Pistons

Aug 7, 2013 12:05 PM

Brandon Jennings is excited for the passing opportunities that will be presented to him with the frontcourt of Andre Drummond, Josh Smith and Greg Monroe.

“They’re going to make my job a lot easier, and of course I’m going to make their job a lot easier,” Jennings said on Tuesday. “I guess you could say we can bring Lob City to Detroit this year.”

Jennings shot just 40 percent last season with the Milwaukee Bucks.

“I definitely have to change my game for this team,” Jennings said. “We have a bunch of great players.

“The things I was doing in Milwaukee, I won’t have to do here – take all those bad shots – because we have so many pieces.”
