Pistons Won't Make Lateral Trade

Dec 21, 2015 12:30 PM

The Detroit Pistons are unlikely to make a significant trade before the deadline unless there is a "clear step up in terms of talent."

Brandon Jennings is nearing a full return and Jodie Meeks is expected back in February.

"Because we like our group," Stan Van Gundy said. "I like the chemistry and character of our group. We won't make lateral moves or marginal moves because continuity is important."

Van Gundy says there's less chatter than in previous seasons.

Pistons Assign Brandon Jennings To D-League For Rehab Assignment

Dec 17, 2015 8:04 PM

Brandon Jennings has been assigned to the Detroit Pistons' NBA Development League (D-League) affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive. Jennings, who is continuing his rehabilitation process, will see his first game action on Saturday, December 19 vs. the Iowa Energy.

The six-year NBA veteran missed 41 games last season and has not played this season after suffering a ruptured left Achilles tendon at Milwaukee on January 24, 2015. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard was acquired in a trade from Milwaukee on July 31, 2013 and has averaged 15.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 121 games with Detroit.

“This is a great example of the many benefits our D-League team offers, supporting Tom Gores’ vision to push for a hybrid affiliation with the Grand Rapids Drive,” said Jeff Bower, general manager of the Detroit Pistons. “It gives Brandon an opportunity to go play in a game, work on his conditioning and compete in a similar system that’s being run by Otis Smith and his staff.”

Pistons Deny Having Any Trade Talks Involving Brandon Jennings

Dec 15, 2015 6:55 PM

Brandon Jennings has been identified in the media as a trade candidate when he returns from his Achilles injury.

But Stan Van Gundy claims neither he nor Jeff Bower have had any talks with other teams about Jennings.

"We haven't one talk with anybody about him," Van Gundy said. "I just think that people assume that with Reggie (Jackson) here and the way Brandon played last year, I think people just make that assumption. He's no more or less available than anybody else we have."

Jennings is in the final year of a three-year, $24 million contract and becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

The Detroit Pistons traded for and then re-signed Reggie Jackson.

Brandon Jennings Expected Back This Month, May Do Rehab Stint In D-League

Dec 9, 2015 11:33 AM

Brandon Jennings is expected to return from his Achilles injury this month.

The Detroit Pistons may send Jennings to the D-League for a rehab stint after they're cleared to play.

"I think it helps with the conditioning because the only way to get in basketball shape is to play basketball," Stan Van Gundy said. "We play so many games that practice time is limited, and practice time isn't that long. Your chance to go get 35 minutes a game, and really get your conditioning back, would be to do something like that. But again, our guys are a little different because they're veteran guys. It would have to be something they're willing to do and we haven't broached that subject yet."
