Rip Hamilton Announces Retirement From NBA

Feb 26, 2015 7:10 PM

Richard "Rip" Hamilton announced his retirement from the NBA on Thursday, first on an ESPN show.

"I want to give a major shout out to everyone who supported me through my NBA journey," Hamilton posted on his official Instagram account. "To my coaches, teammates, and fans in Washington, Detroit, and Chicago: thank you for treating me with the utmost class and respect during my career. I couldn’t have been the player I am without you! Every stop taught me valuable lessons that I will remember for the rest of my life. Although this part of my path has come to a close, my basketball journey is far from over and I am looking forward to the road ahead."

Hamilton won an NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004 and was a three-time All-Star between 2006 to 2008.

Pistons Don't Expect To Buyout Tayshaun Prince

Feb 21, 2015 3:29 PM

The Detroit Pistons sensed that Tayshaun Prince was not ecstatic about his trade to the team from the Boston Celtics.

The Pistons do not plan to buy out Prince so that he could potentially sign with a contender.

"That's an interesting situation because I think that was his expectation, quite frankly," Stan Van Gundy said. "That's certainly not why we acquired him. We didn't acquire him with any kind of promise from us that we were going to buy him out. We brought him in here to play and play a lot. I think yesterday when I talked to him, yeah, his head was spinning a little. Things hadn't gone in a direction he expected.

"Reggie was really, really excited. I think Tayshaun was — not unhappy, but he was sort of trying to figure out what the hell happened, and I understand that."

Durant: Reggie Jackson Got What He Wanted

Feb 20, 2015 2:04 PM

The final months of Reggie Jackson's tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder were acrimonious.

Two hours after word of Jackson's trade to the Detroit Pistons broke, Jackson tweeted, "Crying tears of joy #godisgreat."

"We felt like everybody wanted to be here except for one guy," said Kevin Durant.

Jackson wanted to have a starter's role and make starter's money, which was always going to be difficult if not impossible with Russell Westbrook ahead of him.

Jackson stopped attacking the basket with regularity, attempting 5.1 shots per 48 minutes in the restricted area this season compared to 6.1 last season.

As Durant said Thursday, "He got what he wanted. You can't really --."

Durant paused for a second to think, but he'd already said how he felt

"He got what he wanted," he repeated.

Quincy Miller To Sign 10-Day Contract With Pistons

Feb 19, 2015 7:45 PM

Free agent forward Quincy Miller has reached agreement to sign a 10-day contract with the Detroit Pistons, his agent Jared Karnes told RealGM.

The Pistons are expected to make the deal formal on Saturday.

Miller, 6-foot-10, has played six games for the Sacramento Kings this year but spent the majority of the season with the Reno Bighorns of the NBA D-League.

Miller had discussed a return to the Kings after the All-Star break given the end of his second 10-day deal, but several teams — including Detroit — had strong interest for an immediate deal.

Miller has averaged 2.8 points, two rebounds and one steal in 10.2 minutes a game in the NBA this season. He played for the Denver Nuggets over the last two years.

Reggie Jackson Traded To Pistons, Enes Kanter To Thunder

Feb 19, 2015 5:01 PM

Reggie Jackson has been traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Detroit Pistons.

The Thunder will acquire Enes Kanter as part of the three-team trade, while Kendrick Perkins will go to the Utah Jazz.

Kanter and the Jazz never had serious discussions on an extension, but the Thunder made the move with the intention of re-signing him. Kanter will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

D.J. Augustin and Steve Novak will also be acquired by the Thunder.

The Brooklyn Nets and Indiana Pacers were also interested in Jackson.

Jackson will be a restricted free agent this offseason after turning down a four-year, $48 million extension from the Thunder.

Perkins will be bought out by the Jazz, according to Royce Young of ESPN. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers could have interest in Perkins.
